    Quote 1
ORWELL [voiceover]: It took me over an hour at the County Welfare Department to find out that today was Jean Roger's day off. Then it took me another hour to get her home address. Who said government isn't responsive to the needs of the people?

    Quote 2
ORWELL [voiceover]: The Telex was from the New York Police Department…Julie was apparently a drop lady for the organization. When she wanted out, they wouldn't let her out, so she ran…she ran to me. The only thing was she knew too many names, too many drop points for them to allow her to live. I think what disturbed me more than anything else was how I reacted when she was killed. Brannen wondered how I would handle that kind of situation—-I guess the answer was not very well. To this day, I don't know if I would've killed that man…but I do know I came close. And that in itself is very frightening.

    Quote 3
TRENCH: You think he'll [Brennan] make it?
ORWELL [holding up Brennan's badge]: Yeah, maybe without this extra weight.
TRENCH: Is that the way you felt when you turned in your badge?
ORWELL: Well...well when I see how you turned out, old timer, I'm inclined to count my blessings...yeah. edit »

    Quote 1
TRENCH: …Orwell, I appreciate what you've done, but now, stay out. We'll get Henderson—it's our job. Next time he might try'n kill you and…that would make me very unhappy, Orwell…I'd seem careless.
    ORWELL: You make lousy coffee.
    TRENCH: Don't…drink…it!!

    Quote 2
ORWELL [voiceover]: I have mixed feelings about going to the mailbox in the morning. It's not the junk mail that's always there. I like junk mail—-it's usually more reassuring than reading the morning paper. And it's not the bills I know I'm going to find—-I can't pay those anyway. What bothers me, I guess, is the element of surprise. Like today, when I got a package from a dead man.

    Quote 3
ORWELL [voiceover]: Sometimes I think about packing up and going on a fishing trip in the mountains. You don't see many people there, rich or poor. But then I'd be worried about who might phone me the next night—-a voice from the past asking for help.... edit »
