Annual sci-fi-centric Saturn Awards show honors Heroes and Battlestar Galactica as best TV programs.
Aliens, superheroes, and cave dwellers got their day in the sun yesterday, as the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films held its 33rd annual Saturn Awards in Los Angeles. The show recognizes the best in science fiction, horror, and fantasy movies and television shows as voted by the academy, and was hosted by Greg Grunberg (Heroes) and comedian Jeffrey Ross.
Fan favorite Heroes showed its might, taking home the award for Best Network Television Series. The NBC show beat out other nominees Lost, Jericho, Smallville, 24, and Veronica Mars for the honors.
The Best Syndication/Cable Television Series prize went to the Sci Fi Channel's Battlestar Galactica. The show was nominated alongside The Closer, Dexter, Doctor Who, Eureka, Kyle XY, and Stargate SG-1.
Individual awards were given to Best Actor Michael C. Hall for his role as a serial killer in Dexter, and Best Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt, who plays the spook-talking Melinda Gordon in The Ghost Whisperer. Thanks to an ensemble cast, Heroes swept the supporting actor categories, with Masi Oka taking Best Supporting Actor for the show's time-and-space-bending Hiro, and Hayden Panettiere proving Claire's indestructibility as Best Supporting Actress.
On the film side of things, Children of Men won Best Science Fiction Film, Superman Returns won Best Fantasy Film, and The Descent won Best Horror Film. For a complete list of the award winners and nominees, head over to the award show's Web site.

Heroes deserved it! Great job! It's the best show ever!!!
04/19/2008 04:19:23I knew Heroes would be good but didnt realise it would be this popular. I hope we have many more seasons.
12/05/2007 04:51:58iam so glad heroes won
07/29/2007 13:35:56Good that Jennifer Love Hewitt won a Saturn Award! However, I found out that this awards show (unlike others) is no longer broadcast anywhere! Certainly people would like to see this actress accepting this award....
06/13/2007 20:38:43Yea! Jen finally Ghost Whisperer won something. She was nominated both seasons for a PCA and lost them both to first year Jennifer Garner and this year Eva Longoria. Go Jen hope for many more to come your way and Ghost Whisperers.
05/15/2007 20:45:25shows like 24 are included because they are considered "genre" shows (in this case action/adventure) that are often overlooked by the major award shows that tend to concentrate more are straight dramas. None of the Heros reguars were up for leading roles. all were considered "supporting," probably similar to the way Friends cast always insisted on being listed equally under supporting catagories - so that no one actor is considered more important than the others. Overall, some good picks, although the Saturn Awards has a history of dubious nominations and this year was no exception (Noah Wylie for the Librarian??? Snakes on a Plane - best horror film??)
05/15/2007 03:11:39There isnt much hype about Heros in Australia anymore, I dont know what happening with it
05/14/2007 22:05:33it's good...
05/14/2007 03:40:55im very happy that heroes won ,and im happy for JLH they all deserve it
05/14/2007 02:15:10I don't like Heroes, but I'm very happy about the prize won by Michael C. Hall, Dexter was last year's big hit.
05/13/2007 14:03:05Heroes deserves the award it's a great show and will soon be big in the UK.
05/13/2007 12:34:00I agree with all of u saying that best actress should have gone to Kristen Bell. She is by far the best....
05/13/2007 12:20:58Why would Veronica Mars and 24 be on that list? Surely they can't be pushing "Fantasy" to include everything fiction as long as their target audience get geeky over the show (Don't get me wrong, I am their target audience for all those shows and these wards). Anyway, cool for Heroes.
05/13/2007 02:29:36Way to go Heroes! It is nice to see a good SF show get props.
05/12/2007 20:10:30Heroes deserves it, but how did Superman Returns win anything?
05/12/2007 14:44:52Glad to hear BSG and Heroes won, really like both of them. Also The Descent, it's really a great movie, one of the best horror films of 2006 IMO
05/12/2007 12:49:24O YEAH!!! Heroes won big time. And congrats to Hayden Panettiere :D
05/12/2007 12:29:37I agree EJO should have won for BSG.
05/12/2007 11:26:40I'm really happy for Masi Oka and Heroes, it's a great show. JLH winning best actress award on the other hand... I like Ghost Whisperer and she does a good work in it, but the award should have gone to Kristen Bell imh. ;)
05/12/2007 09:09:08Good for Heroes. It's basically saving NBC right now.

05/11/2007 23:29:52Was Edward James Olmos even nominated for best actor? If so he should have won, hands down.
05/11/2007 21:01:57Hayden has been in every single episode since the pilot; Masi is a close second, his character being played by a kid actor in a flashback in "Company Man."
05/11/2007 20:08:42masi and hayden have been in more episodes than any other person of their gender...were any heroes up for best actor/actress
