Project Runway picks winner
By Colin Mahan - TV.comSPOILERS: Season three of popular fashion reality show names winner. Don't read if you don't want to know.
Recovering drug addict Jeffrey Sebiela was named the winner of season three of Bravo's Project Runway. The Los Angeles-based designer beat out fellow finalists Uli Herzner, an East German immigrant and Miami Beach resident; Michael Knight, a designer from Atlanta; and Laura Bennett, an architect and mother of six.
Sebelia showed a collection during New york's Fashion Week in September that wowed judges host Heidi Klum and show regulars Michael Kors and Elle Magazine's Nina Garcia. His 12 outfits eschewed his normal rock-and-roll style and showed his versatility with flowing, beachy outfits in bold colors.
"You have a great style, you're a great designer and we want to see more of you," Klum told Sebelia.
Sebelia won the grand prize of $100,000 to start a clothing line, a 2007 Saturn, and a spread in Elle. Herzner was the runner-up.
Sebelia was a controversial figure in the show, his brash and unapologetic personality alienating many of the other contestants. In an episode where the task was to design clothes for the mothers of other contestants, he brought one of the mothers to tears and wouldn't apologize for it. Sebelia often spoke of his past troubles with heroin addiction.
In the run-up to the finale, Bennett accused Sebelia of getting outside help to sew some of the piping and other accents on his garments.
Season three of Project Runway scored series-high ratings for Bravo, making it the cable channel's biggest hit.
