Love on the RocksEpisode Number: 99 Season Num: 5 First Aired: Monday March 1, 1999 Prod Code: V0720 |
Nautica, a mermaid, wanted to see the world. But her father, Triton, had arranged a marriage for her. Nautica found a way out when Discord gave her legs. When she met Iolaus 2, they both fell immediately in love. Unfortunately, if Nautica did not return to the sea by sunset, the waters of Greece would turn to ice. When Brutus took her hostage, Iolaus found the strength in his love and handily defeated Nautica's captor. The lovers returned to the beach and after one last kiss, the mermaid swam out to sea.

According to Renee O'Connor, who wore a similar mermaid's tail in the Xena episode "Married With Fishsticks", the worst part of the costume was it took so long to get in and out of it, bathroom breaks were almost impossible to get.

No fish out of water were harmed during the production of this motion picture.

Hercules: Um, could you do me a favor? Iolaus isn't really adjusting well to this world.
Aphrodite: Say no more! Let me take him under my wing, show him the ropes.
Hercules: Actually, I want you to leave him completely alone. (edit) Iolaus 2: (as a be-spelled woman kisses him passionately) Aphrodite, get her off!
Aphrodite: Ah, that's your job. (edit) Discord: Well, if it isn't the multi-talentless and easily inflatable Aphrodite.
Aphrodite: What do you know, it's the Goddess of Skank. Here to defend your title at the kielbasa swallowing contest? (edit) Aphrodite: You want a piece of me, Elvira?!
Discord: What are you going to do to me, Love Girl, shower me with hearts? (edit) Aphrodite: Fashion victim!
Discord: Blonde! (edit)

Much of the publicity for this episode stated Nautica to be the daughter of Poseidon. She is in fact the daugher of Triton.
(edit)
Nitpick
Nautica is the daughter of Triton, who is the brother of Poseidon, but she hasn't even heard of her cousins Aphrodite or Discord. (edit)

Aphrodite: A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, and honey I'm the sweetest.
Aphrodite's line paraphrases the famous soliloquy by Juliet in the Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet. (edit) The Little Mermaid
The plot is a slightly altered retelling of the fairy tale The Little Mermaid, which was later made into a Disney movie. It also incorporates elements from the Tom Hanks movie Splash. (edit)

Love on the RocksSuperb "Character development" A Hercules-lite episode. With Hercules away on a mission, Iolaus II admits to Aphrodite that he longs to experience love. Meanwhile, Discord turns Nautica the mermaid into a beautiful woman, and soon she and Iolaus fall in love. A silly but likable tale.. Continue » Posted Feb 27, 2008 11:26 am PST |
