This episode is very good. It gives a lot of vital information concerning the show's story and mythology.
As Matt and Ted enter the Bennet's house they hold Mr Bennet, Sandra, Claire and her brother Lyle hostages until they get into Mr Bennet's head and discover what has happened to them and how they can fix (concerning their powers).
Matt has a talk with Claire in privacy and he discovers that Claire also has an ability, she is the cheerleader Peter was talking about to protect and both of them realize that Peter is much stronger than they think as he can do what both of them can.
Meanwhile, we see a flashback of Mr Bennet joining the organisation and meeting his partner the invisible man, Claude Rains (the phrase of one of us, one of them would be later expanded in volume 3).
At a moment of shock, Matt is forced to shoot Claire (he knows that she can heal through Mr Bennet's mind) instead of Ted shooting Sandra. In a flashback we see a teenage Haitian using his ability for the first time on Sandra. Mr Bennet realizes he has no other option and he agrees to take Ted to Primatech to give him the information he needs. Ted however tells Matt to go instead with Mr Bennet. In a flashback we see how Mr Bennet got Claire from no other than Hiro's father (we also see little Hiro in the scene) and his promise that if Claire manifests her ability, the company will take her in. Mr Bennet is at the company getting the information and calls on the Haitian. This is the first time we see Haitian actually have a long conversation with someone. Here is where he admits that he is accepting orders from someone higher in the hierarchy that Mr Bennet who is closer to Claire's life (something that we witness in the following chapters).
Meanwhile, Claire manages to save her brother but her mother stays behind to protect Claire (witnessing at the same time her daughter's ability). Both of them are held hostages now.
Returning home, Mr Bennet gives Ted the information, Mr Thompson shoots Ted from behind and this causes Ted to go nuclear. Mr Bennet tries to tranquilize him but he realizes that Claire is the only one capable of going near Ted. In the end Claire saves the day. Ted is kept at Primatech company and so is Matt after these events. Mr Bennet having no other option to protect his daughter from becoming an expirement in Primatech is shot by the Haitian (in a place where he wouldn't die), tells Haitian to erase his memory so that they won't find Claire and leaves him with Claire.
Overall it is a very good episode. Personally, I do not think that this is the best Heroes episode. I've seen better episodes in Heroes but that's just me.
Key facts: The company system one of them one of us, Mr Thompson's appearance (Eric Roberts) as well as Candice's first appearance (she is the one that is taking care of Matt at the end of the episode) who will play an important part in the remaining episodes and the third chapter of volume 2. Enjoy!
The past and the present hide show
This one is episode that really gives stunning answers. It is so much about what they all are and what they can do, why they can do.. The way the situation is getting explosive.. the way the use Claire to save the family... and the mess they get in and how it will cost for the whole family.. and the prize those two pay - the exploding man and the cop.. and then those flashbacks to past.. and the scene on the bridge.. the goodbye.. that was heartbreaking and made me see that char in totally different respective - all he did, it was all to protect his family and that was the cost for him..
Just a good episode. hide show
I am not as big on this episode as most others. It was a decent episode, but I think that it is a bit overrated. That's not to say it was bad by any means, just not the best episode of all time. I did like the writing on this one. The acting was good and it was a decent plot and story. Viewers also learned quite a bit about the characters of certain people in the show. I thought that it was entertaining and it kept me entertained. So overall, it wasn't one of my favorites by any means, but it was just average. Thank you.
As of now, it's still the best episode of Heroes. hide show
Company Man was written by the brilliant Bryan Fuller who, after making this episode, left the show. Which is - in my opinion - the biggest hit Heroes has taken in it's short history so far.
It seems as if it's only Fuller who has the correct vision of what this show should be like.
This episode exploited the show's potential FULLY, which cannot be said about most other episodes.
From the first minute to the last, I was on the edge of my seat, and never before(or after) did I feel so invested in the characters.
The story of HRG was extremely well executed - how the flashbacks and the present time eventually blended. I loved the little "surprises" and hidden references in the flashbacks. Like, little Hiro, or the first time HRG met the haiti. This was also the first time I was genuinely worried for the characters: Ted was crazy and trigger happy. Loved how eventually Matt ended up helping HRG. You see, this episode was slow paced, but unlike other episodes, I didn't feel bored or anything. The character dialouges were great, the story was engrossing and most importantly: the conclusion was epic. It was well worth the build up.
So- still. As of now, no episode comes close to this one. This episode is probably the only episode that is EVER going to hit the Heroes perfection.
Nooo Claire and Mr.Bennett... hide show
This episode was like.. oh, my god. Times ten. The ending is also miserably sad, it was so unexpected and shocking... omg. So throughout the entire episode we've been seeing flashbacks of Mr. Bennet's past, and how he came upon Claire and how he came to love her and stuff. Which was really cool and informative. Later on radioactive man (who is holdig the family hostage) gets shot by Mr. Bennett's boss, setting him off. Claire manages to stop him, but gets like 1000 degree burns. She heals herself though. But... his boss sees Claire's powers and wants her dad to turn her in.. and so he gets the Hatian to shoot him. Omg his last line "I love you, Claire Bear".
