Quotes

Nathan: My brother Peter, the hospice nurse. Can you believe it? It's just --
Heidi: Oh, it's a perfect fit. He's selfless and empathic.
Nathan: He's self-centered and righteous. Self-righteous. (edit)
Tom McHenry: Dude, you're like a walking cliche. (edit)
Sylar: (to Chandra) When I was a kid, I used to wish some stranger would come and tell me my family wasn't really my family. Oh, they weren't bad people. They were just...insignificant. And I wanted to be different. Special. I wanted to change. A new name, a new life. The watchmaker's son became a watchmaker. It is so... futile. And I wanted to be important. (edit)
Mohinder: (voiceover) These people, their future is written on their DNA.
Just as the past, it seems, is written in stone.
Was the die cast from the very beginning?
Or is it in our own hands to alter the course of destiny?
Of all our abilities, free will truly makes us unique.
With it, we have a tiny, but potent, chance to deny fate.
And only with it can we find our way back to being human. (edit)
Mohinder: (voiceover) To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose.
The earth spins at 1,000 miles an hour as we desperately try to keep from being thrown off. Like the first blush of winter, that signals a great migration.
Was there any warning of our arrival? A sign, a single event that set this chain into motion? Was it a whisper in God’s ear?
Survive. Adapt. Escape.
And if we could mark that single moment in time, that first hint of the prophecy of approaching danger, would we have done anything differently? Could it have been stopped? Or was the die long ago cast? And if we could go back, alter its course, stop it from happening… Would we? (edit)

Trivia

add »
The laptop given to Micah by his grandfather was purchased for the production of the show on eBay. It was worth approximately $1900 when it was new (which isn't far short of the $2000 stated by Micah's grandfather). However, AndoverCG Computer Liquidators, a company that provides specialized computer equipment for TV shows, bought it off eBay for $380. The laptop, in reality, does not actually work as it was sold for "parts." (edit)
When Jackie comes to give Claire her cheerleader uniform, Jackie mentions Lori Trammel sleeping with the entire football team. Lori was the one who told Claire that she was raped by Brody too, back in the episode "Collision." (edit)
Goof: At the end of the previous episode, Charlie's presence to blow the candles is requested by the old woman (presumably her boss), but in the beginning of this episode it is the cop who calls her when she's chit-chatting with Hiro. (edit)
Sylar might not have a power at all. However he may have discovered his method of stealing other's powers from Chandra. (edit)
When Niki (actually Jessica) enters Hal Sanders's room, he is reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr..
Cat's Cradle is a sci-fi novel about science, technology and religion. The novel satirizes the arms race through atomic bomb-related events and through a substance called ice-nine which eventually kills almost every life form on Earth. (edit)

Allusions

Mohinder: To every thing there is a season and time to every purpose.

These are the first words of the Old Testament book of the Bible Ecclesiastes chapter 3 verse 1. (edit)
Hiro: Great Scott!

Hiro's exclaimation of this phrase upon realizing he was talking to his past self greatly echos Dr Emmett Brown of the "Back to the Future" movies, who said the same thing when dealing with a similar situation in "Back to the Future Part II" (edit)
