A High Profile

Episode Number: 5    Season Num: 1    First Aired: Wednesday January 31, 1996    Prod Code: LDSF005X
A desperate for work Hetty takes Geoffrey up and down the streets and sidewalks of town advertising the foundering detective agency. This proves to be a wise method of business, as they pick up a client: a woman whose estranged son, Michael, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia, lives in another town. Her husband, Reg, Michael’s stepfather, refused to have her son living with them as Michael grew more delusional. The mother wants to know how her son is doing. As Hetty investigates, she discovers that Michael has disappeared from his sheltered housing unit and has had a hard time being accepted by society. As it becomes clear that Michael has gone off his medicine, Hetty finds herself in a race against the clock to try and find the man before he hurts himself or others in his delusional state.

Possibly due to the heavier nature of the storyline, PBS did not air this in its "Mystery!" rotation. The episode can be found in its entirety on the Season One DVD and the Season One VHS sets. (edit)

Trivia

add »
Hetty [ to Geoffrey and Robert ]: There's nourishment in hot pot. If you were on a desert island, you'd be glad of it.
Dominic Monaghan (Geoffrey) would later play one of the leading characters in Lost, in which a group of people get stuck on a (seemingly) deserted island. (edit)
When Hetty and Geoffrey are investigating Michael's flat, you can see a 'Lord of the Rings' poster hanging on the wall beside the skeleton painting. Later on, in a close-up of Geoffrey, there is another in the background, this one of Treebeard, Pippin and Merry (the character Monaghan would go on to play in The Lord of the Rings). (edit)
