Highway to Heaven was Micheal Landon's second pairing with Victor French (the two both starred on Little House on the Prairie). This show was about Jonathon Smith, an angel sent down by God, aka "The Boss," to partner up with ex-Oakland cop Mark Gordon. They would be assigned duties by the Boss in which they would help people see a better life, and sometimes help each other. The show ran for 5 years on NBC.

Each episode began with clips of that episode. Then the sky would fill with a heavenly shot of clouds. The clouds would fade away, and the soothing theme music would begin to play, and the highway to heaven was open to all.

The show ran for a seemingly short five seasons and is shown today in reruns on the Goodlife TV Network (Monday through Friday 1 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. EST) (Also, it will show on TVLand, every day at 8pm EST.

• Isn't it strange that V.F. and M.L. died from cancer w/in 2 years of HTH ending?

  Almost every episode of the show dealt with somebody dying from an illness, and the most common illness somebody would have was cancer. The fact that they would actually both die from cancer within 2 years of the show ending is very strange and bizarre. Why has nobody ever commented on it?

  Aww, c'mon! Don't be ashamed to admit it. I'm a man of thirty-some years old and I do. It seems that the shows of the fourth season had the most depressing subject matter. Or maybe that was when I was sixteen years old and unusually sensitive for that age. I have a handful of episodes of the show that have made a tissue or two necessary. The first one that comes to mind was "I Was A Middle-Age Werewolf". Six-year old Alan goes trick-or-treating with his older sister, about twelve years of age and her friend, who is the same age. They play a trick on Alan, which leads him to become separated from the two. When his parents find out, his dad, who's the macho man type, goes looking for him, vowing that he's going to let Alan have it when he finds him. Well, they aren't able to find him and the police are called. Soon after, Alan returns home and when he's tearfully apologizing to his dad, his father turns around and walks over to him, looking like he's going to light into him. Instead, he picks him up and begins to cry. That was totally unexpected, because he had previously said that only sissies cry. It was just so heartwarming that I couldn't help but break down myself. Two episodes later, we find the twin brother of the boy who played Alan playing the part of a little boy who's father died unexpectedly. His mother is so beside herself due to the death of her husband that she doesn't realize that her son needs to grieve too. He deals with it through his superhero doll, Amazing Man until Jonathan help his mother to realize Stevie's needs. The cemetery scene, when he puts his head on his father's grave and cries, as well as when he's telling Amazing Man, who briefly came to life (through Jonathan) about what happened at the cemetery, was what made me have to reach for the kleenex box. I have a few others, which I'll add later on. less «

  Which show do you like better? They're both similar, but I like Highway to Heaven, of course it's one of my fave shows of all time.

  A Great Show! hide « show »

  Highway to Heaven is one of my favourite TV shows of all time. It was a great show with great acting by Landon and French (who were also both awesome in Little House on the Prairie), and both of them also did some directing and/or writing on the show. The was was a dramatic show but always very uplifting, it was one of those shows that just made you feel good to watch. The basic premise has French playing a retired police officer who becomes a sidekick to Landon, an angel who has been sent back to earth to help people in order to win back his wings. One of the all time classic shows that definitely deserves more love!

  Bring It Back in Michael Landons Honor ! hide « show »

  As a Christian I have to say I also loved watching Highway To Heaven. It was a show that I watched all the time and I would continue to watch if it was still playing new episodes, even though Michael Landon was the Best.There must be someone out there that could play this part good in Honor of him. I was so disappointed when they took it off the air. They need to bring it back on the air, like I said with a new actor in Michaels Honor. It was one of the GREATEST shows ever and I really enjoyed watching it. I try to catch the reruns when I can, but it's just not the same as when you watch a newly released episode. I miss watching it and was really disappointed when it was taken off the air, not to mention that the show had a lot of inspirational points and stories that touched me and I'm sure it touched many others as well. And had some great lessons for everyone in it. Please put it back on the air in Michaels Honor.

  quality family programming hide « show »

  i used to watch this show with my entire family. i can not remember what night it came on, but we all watched it toghether. in a time when shows like the a-team, hunter, and hill street blues dominated the airwaves, this show was much more family friendly. it got a little preachy at times, but it was after all a show about and angel.

  The show was wholesome fun that everyone could enjoy hide « show »

  So much can change in the matter of 20 years. It even seems unreal that "Highway to Heaven" was that long ago, but when I stop and think of how the times have changed since then, it does seems like a long time ago. This show was good wholesome fun back when having a show about God and an angel was all right and actually did well enough to garner ratings.
  
  Back before the ACLU was known by everyone and the controversies of taking out words like "Christmas" from commercials and biblical artifacts from public places were prevalent, came a show about a gentler time. While Michael Landon had some skeletons on his closet in his personal life (who doesn't?), he had a way of presenting shows that made people feel good, and this one was no exception. Landon and French also had a very positive chemistry and nobody on tv could bring my mother to tears like Michael Landon.
  
  Some of these shows still hold up today, and while some people may say the show is too sweet and sappy, I am proud to say this is one of my faves, even now in days when things are darker and even more cynical.

  Highway To Heaven best describes the meaning of this show. As you live your life, it's always great helping people out and caring for one another. Highway To Heaven is a long road, but helping people and making the world a better place is what Jonathan a hide « show »

  Everyone believes this show is for 'religious' people and it's not. It's ever everyone and it doesn't matter what religion you practice.
  
  The lesson we all learn from this show is to care for people and help one another. Caring and helping others doesn't have anything to do with a specific religion.
  
  I truly enjoyed this show, as it airs on TVLand in reruns. This is truly an inspirational show.
