HistoriesEpisode Number: 10 Season Num: 1 First Aired: Tuesday February 8, 2005 Prod Code: HOU-111 |
Dr. Foreman believes an uncooperative homeless woman is faking seizures to get a meal ticket at the teaching hospital. But her homelessness strikes a personal chord with Dr. Wilson and he grows determined to keep her from falling between the cracks. Her worsening symptoms prove to be a complex mystery for House and his team, but the mystery of her identity and medical history may hold the answers to saving her life. Just as the team suspects she has contagious meningitis, the woman goes missing, only to be tasered by the police, who bring her back. But House deduces the taser may have proven yet another diagnosis, with dire results. Meanwhile, House has an audience of two medical students who are learning how to do case studies.

The reference to "Kaplow's Pawn Shop" is a in-joke to writer/producer Lawrence Kaplow.
(edit)
The song playing in at the party in the opening scene is "On Fire Like This" by Mutaytor.
(edit)
Dr. Wilson: Fake low blood sugar. Now that's acting.
(edit)
Dr. Wilson: You don’t walk out of a room with ten milligrams of Haldol in your system, you don’t walk at all.
Dr. Foreman: It was ten milligrams, I gave it to her...
Dr. Cuddy: It doesn’t matter! Bacterial meningitis, highly contagious, if she is out of the hospital, we are so liable.
Dr. Wilson: Not to worry. She’ll be dead before she can kill anybody. (edit) House: Wrong coat. The cape’s in the closet, I had it cleaned.
Dr. Foreman: Funny. (edit) Dr. Chase: Why are we on this case?
Dr. Cameron: Because Wilson asked House to do him a favor.
Dr. Chase: I think House just wants to prove she’s sick so Foreman will be wrong.
Dr. Cameron: (with a sigh) Oh, you boys. (edit) House: You gonna save her?
Dr. Foreman: In her comics, Mr. Fury lives in Sloan Harbor. The night she came in, she was at a rave at 1408 Sloan Street.
House: You’ve been reading. My, how you’ve changed.
Dr. Cuddy: You are a doctor; do what doctors do. Pick up the phone, dial 911 and a cop on the other end does what cops do and finds the missing person! I assume the rest of you have doctor things to do. (to House) I know you do. (edit)

House and his team diagnose bacterial meningitis. Bacterial meningitis is a medical emergency and has a high mortality rate if untreated. All suspected cases, however mild, need emergency medical attention. The best results to confirm BM are lumbar puncture and CSF analysis, which were not done in this case.
(edit)
The gun the cop said he used a taser gun on Victoria. However, taser guns are illegal in New Jersey. Very few cops are allowed to carry them.
(edit)
The $100 bill that House tries to bribe the cop with is fake. The portrait of Ben Franklin is facing the wrong way.
(edit)
Since the mid-1980s the standard treatment for rabies in the U.S. is one shot in the butt, similar to a penicillin shot, and five in the arm with a 3/4" needle. Done right, it's painless. The stomach shot seen here hasn't been used in a long time.
(edit)
Getting the shots after the nerve symptoms show up is useless: at that point the brain is already involved and you are dead.
(edit)
Dr. Foreman: Baby, it’s cold outside.
This is alluding to the popular song "Baby, It’s Cold Outside" from the 1949 movie "Neptune's Daughter". The song was written by Frank Loesser and recorded by Margaret Whiting and Johnny Mercer. (edit) Dr. House: I don't need to watch The OC, but it makes me happy.
Referencing the other popular FOX series. (edit) Dr. Cuddy: You like Aliens movies?
Referencing any or all of the various Alien movies, specifically when something bursts out of a person's chest. (edit)
