Lilly and Marshall go to Minnesota for Thanksgiving while Ted and Robin discover Barney's secret while they attempt to feed the homeless. hide show

This is an amusing episode where we are introduced to the Ericson family in Minnesota as Lilly & Marshall go to visit for Thanksgiving. Lilly thinks she might be pregnant and the thought of becoming an Ericson is too overwhelming for her. We discover that Marshall is the runt of the Ericson family and that a salad in the Ericson household includes, mayonaisse, gummy bears, and funions. After Lilly discovers that Marshall's brother weighed 15 pounds at birth (roughly the size of a turkey) she runs off to the town convenience store to take a pregnancy test, because the store didn't have a restroom she took the test in an alley where she subsequentally gets arrested for public urination. Back in New York, Ted decided to stay in town for the holiday. He wanted to give back to the community (and impress Robin) so he decided to feed the homeless at a shelter. Robin decides to come along since Canadians celebrate Thanksgiving in October. At the shelter, they make a discovery, Barney volunteers at the shelter on a regular basis because he needed to fulfill community service hours for his public urination charges. After a series of mishaps that include Ted revealing that the shelter volunteers steal food from the homeless, Ted, Robin, and Barney get kicked out of the shelter. The trio ends up at a strip bar. There is a scene that has many fans talking still talking. After Ted tells his kids that he talked to a stripper he jokingly tells them "That is the story of How I met your mother."

    Thanksgiving special... hide show

My favourite quotes for the episode...
Barney: I've done so much good today, I've got, like, a 'soul boner.' Robin: I am Canadian. Remember? We celebrate Thanksgiving in October.
Ted: Oh right I forgot. You guys are weird and you pronounce the word 'out' ,'oot'.
Robin: You guys are the world's leader in hand gun violence; your health care system is bankrupt and your country is deeply divided on almost every important issue.
Ted: (pause) Your cops are called 'mounties' Barney: Helping people less fortunate than me is the greatest pleasure in the world.
Robin: Yesterday you said the greatest pleasure in the world was having your toes sucked. Then you asked for a high five . . . from your foot. (At homeless shelter)
Ted: What are you doing here?
    Barney: The Lord's work.
    Ted: But you're Satan!

Also great times when Lily and Marshall gets together with the Erikssen family. I loved how Ted joked , and kids, that`s how I really met your mother!

    A Thanksgiving episode! hide show

This series is unbelievably consistent. I cannot recall one bad episode of How I Met Your Mother. That is why it stands out in a sea of many inferior sitcoms currently. In this Thanksgiving episode we see our favorite ensemble getting into even more mischief. I have always loved holiday themed TV episodes. I am not sure why, but they almost always end up being among my favorite episodes. This one is no exception. The cast and writing shine through and so does the hilarity of this great show. Overall, this is great episode and is highly recommended. Watch it on Thanksgiving and the experience will be extra special.

    Funny stuff. hide show

Seeing this episode assures me that How I Met Your Mother is the best new comedy series this season. I think it's going to have a long run. It's pretty funny. The whole premise is pretty interesting and there are some great characters and great stories to tell. I really enjoyed the whole public urination bit. I don't know... some stuff really cracks me up.
