How I Met Your Mother is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all starts when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), drops the bombshell that he's going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realizes that he had better get a move on if he too hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny may have something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future.

  Source: Ausiello How I Met Your Mother's decision to bring the Barney-Robin love story to a premature climax has left fans feeling decidedly unsatisfied. But executive producer Carter Bays insists the romance was sacrificed for a greater good: the preservation of Neil Patrick Harris' legendary ladies' man. "None of us wanted to see Barney wearing a sweater-vest and going to bed-and-breakfasts," says Bays, adding that it makes sense the relationship would "flame out fast" given that "neither of them, at their core, really wanted to be tied down." Bays also believes that, deep down, viewers prefer single Barney to attached Barney. "It's one of those things where you can give people what they think they want, or what they really want." And should some of them feel that they really want him to settle down with Robin, Bays offers this bit of hope. " could get relationship amnesia and decide, 'Hey, this is a good idea!'" he proposes. "This could be the first of many flameouts for them." Bays, however, stops short of saying a full-fledged reconciliation could be in their future. "I don't want to say reconciliation," he says. "But the story is not over, for sure." --- Condescending much? I never knew that aside from being a writer, Bays also can read my mind and know what I want better than I do = FAIL. The writing is lazy, their narrow view of relationship is laughable and seeing how they feel about character growth, 2030 Barney would probably end up as a one dimensional caricature and nothing more. I'm surprised these are the same talents who gave us the amazing first two seasons... Sigh, I guess now I'll only watch the show for Neil. Any thoughts? less

  Of course, Neil Patrick Harris was Doogie Howser. And Alyson Hannigan was Willow. But, I'm watching an episode of "Batman: The Brave and Bold" just simply because NPH does the voice of the Music Meister. And between this and "Dr. Horrible," I think he should sing everything he does. I know a little bit of Jason Segal's filmography. Has anyone seen Cobie Smulders or Josh Radnor in anything else?   I see a lot of people on this forum that desperately want to meet who Ted's going to marry. My question is, why? I've just caught up with this show recently, and I have to say the whole mother angle, while important to the plot of the show (well, is the plot of the show), isn't that important to me. I actually like the banter and seeing how they act on a day to day basis. The writing is good, and the story lines are pretty engaging. Also, there's a very strong possibility we won't even get to see the mother. Just a shot of him meeting a faceless woman, and back to the kids (actually the one I'm hoping for). It's probably certain that the show is going to end when he meets her, so I can definitely wait on that. And what are the alternatives? They devote a few episodes, or even a season to the mother, and after all that hype, she underwhelms. I'm almost pushing for the surprise Robin ending at this point.... I guess if they kept us guessing between two different women, and pick one in the end, that would be alright. Again, that's not something I'm in a rush for. less

  Started to be boring hide show

  The first two season of HIMYM were so fun and had great stories in every episode. Starting from season 4 and including this season it's started to be boring.
  What else they can show us on this season? Barney's tricks to catch women? that's it? I know this show isn't supposed to be involved on Barney. But I'm started to be full of Barney's.
  I like Ted and doesn't seem to figure out why he's not given a wider space in this show instead of imitating "Friends" with some more twists instead of depending on the great performance of their actors.
  I think this show is getting to be overrated now.

  Barney's Playbook hide show

  Barney's backgammon tactics to learn about that girl wish. I've implemented a few of them really works. But divers wearing a beautiful event at the event will be how to apply. We are afraid we will try disgrace to the nation. When applied to real life from this series, I sometimes slap several works. Like the other seasons, this season they made a lot of fun. Make sure that a series to be monitored.I learned a lot I can say in this section certain.Other sections a little intimidating was. Barney and Robin do because they had very strange. My favorite section of this chapter, but was.

  Well when Barney and Robin were in relationship, it looks like the show has lost its touch.. NPH is great when he is flirting around, but when he is committed than it makes his character a bit dull.
  
  Suprisingly, there is not more of the story of Ted in this season, as in last two Story was pretty much revolving between Barney and Robin, now there is a GOOD breakup between them, it look like show will once against be back on track.
  
  Anyway, the best part of the show was the Scuba Driver part of Barney. It was awesome. Head Up for the next epsiode :)

  The life and times of Ted Mosby and his friends told 20 years from now is Legen...wait for it... hide show

  ..dary! How I Met Your Mother is one of the best sitcoms on the air. The characters are fleshed out, the story is heartwarming and, while being susceptible to standard sitcom cheesiness, still manages to hold some of the wittiest dialogue I've ever seen in a show. It's one of those shows that are mostly realistic. Things you'd actually love to do in real life, whether it's sing a Proclaimers song on a road trip, or show your friends your all-rise Get Psyched mix, or use one of Barney's playbook tricks, peak in frequently. It's just one of those shows with that amazingly welcoming sense of humor that sets it aside from other shows, and that's why Ted Mosby's kids are probably never going to leave that couch again...
