Fastest Gun in the EastEpisode Number: 37 Season Num: 2 First Aired: October 24, 1966 Prod Code: n/a |
Jeannie blinks Tony back in the past as marshal of Gopher Gulch, a town plagued by rustlers, when he wishes that he had lived in the Old West.
| Writer: | Sidney Sheldon |
| Director: | Hal Cooper |
| Star: | Barbara Eden (Jeannie), Larry Hagman (Major Anthony "Tony" Nelson) |
| Recurring Role: | Barton MacLane (General Peterson), Hayden Rorke (Dr. Alfred Bellows), Bill Daily (Major Roger Healey) |
| Guest Star: | Richard Reeves (1st Man), Bud Perkins (Josh), Stephanie Hill (Georgia), Whit Bissell (Horace), Fred Krone (Al), Hoyt Axton (Bull), Eddie Firestone (Eddie) |
The name of the western town Tony suddenly finds himself "Marshal" of, is Gopher Junction, NOT "Gopher Gulch" [that's where the "Go-Go Gophers" lived and made mischief in, during the 1966-'67 season of "THE UNDERDOG SHOW" on CBS].
(edit)
This was the FIRST episode to be filmed in color, and was produced at the tail end of the first season's production schedule [January 1966]. NBC wanted to see what the show would look like in color, and Screen Gems FINALLY allowed Sidney Sheldon the extra $300 he insisted he needed to film each episode in color, beginning with this episode.
Even though Barbara Eden appears at the end of the episode in the "color" harem costume she'd wear for the rest of the series, her make-up is still "thickened" for black and white filming. (edit) More Hoyt Axton trivia: his mother wrote Elvis Presley's first smash-hit for the RCA label, "Heartbreak Hotel". (edit) Hoyt Axton would later become a famous songwriter with such songs as "Joy to the World" (which was a huge number-one hit for the group Three Dog Night", "The Pusher" (covered by Steppenwolf) and "The No No Song" (which became a hit for Ringo Starr). (edit) Bill Daly and Hayden Roarke do not appear in this episode. (edit)
