Ian: (why he left "Australian Idol") Look, I loved Australia Idol. Basically, everything I have now would not have happened without Idol. I probably went a bit cold on it last year. This year, I think it’s back with a vengeance - I’m actually addicted to it. I did feel a bit jealous at times, looking at the show still going on without me. I left because, I guess, I didn’t want to become a pantomime baddie. I didn’t want to become too predictable. Plus, I’ll be honest; I’m in it for the money as well.
(edit)
Ian: (on being sexy) I don’t realise I’m sexy but it’s very kind of you to say that. And if you’d like to say it a bit louder to my wife, I’d be very grateful.
(edit)
Ian: (asked if the contestants on "Celebrity Survivor" were given toilet paper) The only occasion they were allowed the luxury of a lo was when they were at tribal council. Other than that, it was just banana leaves.
(edit)
Ian: (asked if the contestants on "Celebrity Survivor" are given insect repellent) Sunscreen and repellent were the only two things they were given. Melanesia’s rife with malaria, and there are a lot of other things there like dengue fever and stuff. We actually gave them the opportunity to have malaria tablets, which some of them chose to do and some didn’t.
(edit)
Ian: (repeating Jeff Probst’s catchphrases on "Celebrity Survivor") I got really nervous about taking on Jeff’s role, because the guy’s a giant. He’s created these big hero lines like ‘The tribe has spoken’, ‘On my go’ and ‘I’ll go tally the votes’, so when I said those things, I cringed. I just fel like a really bad actor. I did try to create my own environment, and I think that comes through eventually with my inability to take the over-sincere rubbish of these contestants. I like having more of a laugh than Jeff does.
