If "greatness is thrust upon us," as Winston Churchill once said, then it stands to reason that those who are destined for greatness are rarely aware of it. Take Jack (newcomer Matthew Long) and Bobby McCallister (Logan Lerman, The Butterfly Effect) for example: two bright young brothers growing up under the watchful eye of their eccentric single mother Grace McCallister (Christine Lahti, Chicago Hope). Grace's personality is a force of nature destined to shape both of these young men's lives and secure one a place in the history books - as President of the United States.

Set in the fictional town of Hart, Missouri in the present day, the series details the relationship between these brothers and the people who shape their values and personalities, especially their mother. A brilliant college professor with an unconventional parenting style, Grace is struggling to let one son go and understand the other. Although she has no way of knowing she is raising a future president, it would not surprise her to know that her boys are destined for greatness. Jack is the big brother everyone wishes they had. A natural hero and a born leader, he seems to have everything going for him. He's the perfect role model for Bobby, who, with a big heart and a quick intellect, is nonetheless an undeniable social misfit. Bobby is caught between the rival forces of his mother and his brother, and it's impossible to please them both.

The arrival of a new college president and his beautiful daughter impacts the lives of all three McCallisters. In Peter Benedict (John Slattery, Mona Lisa Smile) Grace has met not only her new boss, but an intellectual equal. Peter is a brilliant businessman with a questionable character, and Grace finds herself both attracted and repelled by him. Peter's teenage daughter Courtney (newcomer Jessica Paré) soon strikes up a friendship with Jack and forms a special bond with Bobby. The brothers eventually learn that the brave front Courtney presents to the world hides a painful family secret.

Another pivotal figure in Jack and Bobby's childhood is Jack's best friend Marcus Ride (Edwin Hodge, The Alamo). Son of the owner of J.R., a popular neighborhood gathering spot, Marcus is close to Jack, but their relationship is also highly competitive. Over time, their friendship will be tested repeatedly.

Exploring the idea that what happens today in the life of one child could impact the future of the entire world, upcoming episodes will focus on the events that mold Jack and Bobby's characters and shape their values. While the McCallister's family life in the present day is explored, the audience will also see glimpses of what America may be like 40 or 50 years from now. What kind of President will it take to lead the country in 2040? What kind of world will this man inherit? How will Jack and Bobby McCallister make the journey from Hart, Missouri to Washington D.C. and what will their lives mean to every American?
In an era when political parties are more divided than ever, Jack and Bobby offers a look at a leader who truly unifies. His unlimited hope and optimism earns President McCallister the nickname "The Great Believer." Although the McCallister administration is not without controversy and even scandal, the underlying message is that one individual can still make a difference in the world. Each episode will be themed around some aspect of character. What makes someone inspiring? How valuable is faith or honesty? Is greatness born in a person or is it learned? The story of Jack and Bobby McCallister is the origin tale of a great leader.

With flash-forward interviews of White House staffers and the First Lady, Jack and Bobby is a snapshot of a young man being molded to beat the odds and become this mid-century's greatest Presidential leader.

  I remember watching bits and pieces of this show back when it was still on the air, but I never got into it or watched a full episode (besides, I think, the Pilot, which I guess didn't interest me to really continue). I've been watching the episodes 1.07 - 1.21 (finale should be soon!) on Comcast OnDemand and the show is AWESOME. I remembered Grace's relationship with her grad student, but never saw any of the details or fall out. I also remembered the car crash. That's all, pretty much. I would just watch seconds of it during commercials of other shows. Anyway, having now seen most of the episodes through, the show is BRILLIANT! What turned me off before were the flash forwards to the future. Those parts were, and still are, boring. But if you really listen and realize they intertwine with the current storyline, they are a bit more watchable. But the central storylines are so great. The relationships - romantic, and the relationship between mother and sons - are wonderful. And between the brothers, too. I just LOVE Kate/Jack. It was really sad when Kate found out about Missy, and then Jack tried to console her and she's just like, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM ME! Also I liked where they were heading with Courtney/Marcus. I loved everything, really. It makes me really disappointed now that there was never a season 2. I so would love to see what would have happened in season 2. Seems like all the brilliant written shows get canned (Everwood, Jack & Bobby, etc). Kind of funny, but when I first watched the Pilot five years ago, I thought Bobby was suppose to be retarded. less «

  This series was almost perfect and I loved watch the series when it was airing on television. It was funny, emotional and have drama. I thought this series would last long on air but I guess they planned to make only a few episodes and show them on television. Anyway, I was glad I was able to see the series before they ended it. To anyone who might be interested in seeing this series, good luck at finding it but I think it might be around somewhere Jack and Bobby was a really great series even with its flaws, big and small.

  Too intelligent, too good, bad scheduling ??
  
  I don't know what caused this series to be cancelled after only one season, but what a season it was.
  
  Brilliantly written and acted, this is a true gem in television history. Unfortunately, it was not recognised as such at the time and it was cancelled, too realy, too soon!!
  
  Clever juxtaposing of current and future events in the lives of our characters made this a special show. The quality of writing made it an excellent show and the actors involved, especially the three leads, made it unforgettable. Matt Long in particular make such an impression that I'm sure he will have a bright future in whatever he decides to do.
  
  Definitely "gone too soon".

  Today I was flipping through the channels on my TV when I started to think of all the "good" shows that use to be on TV. It hit me when I thought about Jack and Bobby, I was completely devestated when it was taken off the air. I loved to watch it with my father in the living room of our apartment when he would come home at night from work, he absolutely loved it as much as I did. Personally I think that it was a very good show, and yes it may have had some content that other did not like but who cares, they have the remote and they know how to change the channel its not that hard. Personally I believe that Jack and Bobby should be brought back to television. Thank you.

  The story of two brothers, one who would become president after the other one was killed. Sadly, it was cancelled too soon. hide « show »

  I didn't start watching 'Jack & Bobby' right away. It sounded interesting but I never gave it a try. Then one night, mid-season, after Smallville I decided to see what was so good about it. With one episode it drew me in.
  
  It had a great balance between teenage drama, family drama, and an interesting concept of future flash forwards to interviews with the president's friends, family, and affiliates. This allowed us to see where some of the characters would eventually get without knowing when or why, while also telling parallel stories of the two brothers growing up.
  
  Unfortunately, 'J&B' wasn't attracting much of an audience and was cancelled after the 1st season. One good thing about how the show ended was that they actually managed to give closure to most of the story that was developed during the 1st season's run. While it was definitely rushed in the last episode, it still had an emotional impact. Too bad networks don't give shows a chance anymore. If it isn't a runaway hit, toss it aside and copy something that is...
  
  Anyways, it was a very touching show that deserved more than it received.
