Jackie Robinson broke the Major League color barrier in 1947. Some people incorrectly say that he was the first black player in MLB history. While that is not technically correct that does not diminish the great achievement that he made to baseball and human rights. All Major League teams retired Jackie’s number 42 on the 50th anniversary of his accomplishment.

On April 15, 2007 MLB held "Jackie Robinson Day" which honored the 60th anniversary of MLB's integration. Many players and some entire teams wore the number 42 on their jersey to honor Jackie.

Jackie had a career high 12 triples in 1949 finishing 3rd in the National League. He has two other top-10 seasons and retired with a total of 54.
