Jane Wyman: Biography
Academy award winning actress Jane Wyman came up in Hollywood the hard way appearing in movies at age 8 where she spent 10 years appearing in minor dancing roles and bit parts. Jane's official "discovery" was by actor William Demarest. Jane Wyman won critical acclaim for the 1945 film The Lost Weekend which finally put her in the spotlight. Soon to be followed with 1946's The Yearling in which she would receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress and finally a win two years later in 1948's Johnny Belinda, which made her the first actress in the sound era to win an acting Oscar without ever speaking a word. Jane also shared the longest screen kiss in cinema history with 1941's You're in the Army Now with Regis Toomey that lasted 3 minutes and 5 seconds. By the mid-fifties Jane would host and star in Jane Wyman Presents the Fireside Theater, for which she won an EMMY in 1957.
By the 1960's Jane would appear in talk shows, variety programs and other dramatic series and her final role would be as the matriarch Angela Channing in the 80's series Falcon Crest.
