Idol producer gets dramatic

Reality guru Simon Fuller shifts gears, gets "real-time" hospital drama pilot for CW; 90210's Garth lands lead role.

The name Simon Fuller is music to some people's ears, and a nails-against-the-chalkboard screech to others. Fuller is the mastermind behind American Idol and its international counterparts, and is also responsible for the Spice Girls.

Now Fuller is trying his hand at scripted drama, says Variety. The CW has green-lighted a pilot for Austin Golden Hour, a medical drama set in Texas. Unlike the typical overly dramatic hospital show, Austin will borrow a mechanic made popular by 24--the real-time format.

In other production news, actress Jennie Garth of Beverly Hills, 90210 and Dancing with the Stars fame has landed the lead role in the comedy pilot My Best Friend's Girl, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She will play the girlfriend of a man who works with and is best friends with her ex-husband at a bike show. Tim Peper and Josh Cooke also star in the CBS show as the two men.

Damnit CW, renew Reaver already and stop greenlighting more crap, it's like they want their network to forever suck.

Awesome. I loved Jennie in What I Like About You, so seeing her landing a lead role on another comedy brightens up my day.
