Jessica Benton (born in 1942 – www.us.imdb.com) was trained as a classical ballet and modern jazz dancer.
The Onedin Line gave her a starring role for a decade (1971-1980). Unfortunately and weirdly when this so popular TV series broke up it also abruptly and sadly put an end to Jessica's career as an actress. As she said in a 1992 BBC interview (german site www.onedinlinie.de), she had not been ambitious enough (as TV partners Jane Seymour and Kate Nelligan were then) to meet the right persons at the right time to give her career a boost. In fact she was naďve enough to believe that good things would go on by themselves and that offers would be floating around in the house. But nothing happened as expected and poor offers and frustration led to her leaving the acting profession.
She has been married to the renowned british landscape photographer Charlie Waite (she met at 16 – former actor successfully turned photographer) and looks after a farm in Devon. They have had a daughter Ella.
She sometimes has a nostalgic thought of her Onedin Line stardom time but however has fully accepted the fact that it will never come back over again.
