Jim Palmer: Summary
Though born in New York City, Jim Palmer was raised first in California and then in Arizona where, as a high school student, he excelled in football, baseball, and basketball. At age 18 he signed with the Baltimore Orioles and pitched for them from 1965 to 1984, winning 268 games. He never gave up a grand-slam homer, was voted the Cy Young Award three times, and became the only pitcher ever to win a World Series game in three different decades. In 1990 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
