Joshua Jackson has been cast as one of the lead characters in the upcoming Fox drama Fringe, the latest program to come from producer extraordinaire J.J. Abrams, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Fringe is in the typical Abrams vein, mixing science-fiction, action, and drama, and follows a team of three as they "confront the spread of unexplained phenomena," a la The X-Files. The 29-year-old Jackson will play Peter Bishop, a brilliant high-school dropout trying to settle gambling debts. Bishop teams up with his estranged scientist father and an FBI agent, played by John Noble and Anna Torv, respectively.

Filming is reportedly already underway in Canada on the two-hour, $10-million pilot.

Jackson's most popular previous credit was as Pacey Witter on the teen drama Dawson's Creek. He has also appeared in the films Cruel Intentions, Ocean's Eleven, and the Mighty Ducks movies.

Abrams is the current King Midas of Hollywood, with credits that include Alias, Lost, and Cloverfield.

This is great news! I love Joshua Jackson and it's great that he's returning to TV. Also I'm a huge sci-fi fan so this sounds like winning combination.

Hmmm I'll have to keep my eyes open for that one. I like Jackson, although unfortunately I tend not to be a fan of sci-fi type tv shows.

Would it be so hard to add his first name to the article title? I have no interest in reading about this kid..thought the article was about Peter Jackson.

So I guess even if the strike ends now, he won't be on Grey's. I wanted him on Grey's.

He was in Ocean's Eleven, with Holly Marie Combs from Charmed and Barry Watson, I think. They were like the newbie players, it was a very short cameo for the three. I watched the movie only because of Holly and not the big stars. :p

He was in Ocean's Eleven as himself. He was playing in the poker game around the beginning of the movie.

I don't think he was in Ocean's Eleven. In fact I'm positive. I checked the IMDB site. He's not listed as a cast member for that. Check the facts writer.

Hey another JJ Abrams project....sounds good to me.

Pacey back on TV, it will be great, and if it wasn't for the writers strike he could of been Christina's rebound man on Grey's
