As a young girl attending an all-girls' school in northern California, Josie Maran dreamed of being a model ever since she saw Christy Turlington's work for Maybelline. This dream began to become reality when she was asked to be in a fashion show while at a barbeque. Her stunning girl-next-door looks, a combination of Polish, Russian, Dutch, French, and German heritage, caught the attention of a modeling agent at the show. Her career began to take off, and ever since, she's been one of the most recognizable, beautiful faces in modelling.

Her first cover was Glamour in 1998, and she's been on countless covers and in countless spreads and ads since, in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Shape, Elle, GQ, Maxim, FHM, and Arena. Some of her more notable appearances include Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition, where she was a staple from 2000 to 2002, and a very risqué shoot for Sisley that almost cost her the Maybelline International contract she'd aspired to from the start.

Her highly visible spokemodel work for Maybelline International, along with Guess?, American Eagle Outfitters, Marie Claire, Intimissimi, and most recently Bebe, are among Josie's work in ads. Her good looks and natural charisma enable her to model everything from high fashion to lingerie to swimwear to makeup. Despite her 5'7" stature, relatively small in the modelling world, Josie is currently one of the most sought-after models in the modelling world.

Josie has always been aware that fame is fleeting, especially in the fashion industry, and is eager to branch out her career beyond the fickle world of modelling and into acting. Though she did appear in the Everybody (Backstreet's Back) video for the Backstreet Boys, her first real role was the title character in the 2002 indie flick, The Mallory Effect. The film played at Sundance, but never received distribution. She had a part in another low-budget, non-distributed film, Swatters (2002), but her acting career didn't truly take off until recently, when three consecutive parts in three blockbuster movies brought her to a new level of fame.

Josie played one of Dracula's brides in Van Helsing (2004), a cigarette girl who is seduced by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Aviator (2004), and Lulu Fritz, the model ex-girlfriend of the main character's boyfriend in Little Black Book (2004). She'll soon be making the leap from bit parts to lead roles in two films, scheduled for release in 2005-2006. In Mike Mendez's The Gravedancers (2005), currently in post-production, Josie stars as one of a group of friends who "desecrate the graves of three very unforgiving ghosts." Up next is the sports film The Final Season (2006), where Josie plays the female lead, a lawyer who falls for Sean Astin's high school baseball coach.

Josie's interest in the arts extends beyond film. When not in acting class, Josie is training herself in "dance classes... violin classes, speech classes, everything. I'm just trying to train myself in the arts, you know? Nobody else is gonna do it so I'm going to. I'm gonna take on the world." Her interest in music led her to play casually in two bands: Darling, with a pre-Hiltoned Nicole Richie, and Hollywood 2000, where she sang and played violin.

Josie currently splits her time between New York and California, and lives with an unnamed love interest and her cats (Ol' Dirty Kitty and Cash Money, to name a few). Ever since she broke up with David Blaine, she's kept her private life just that: private.

Josie: I'm still figuring out why people would want to look at me. Maybe it's generic beauty, but it's weird to be valued for something I was born with. (edit)
Josie Maran: (about her crushes on Gwen Stefani and Johnny Depp) I wanna merge them into one person. (edit)
Josie Maran: (about the game, Van Helsing) For this game, we shot it just like it as if it was a film so there wasn't that much different from doing a film other than some technical things for the costume that had to be done so they could transfer the footage later and make it look animated. (edit)
Josie Maran: Performing for a game involves real acting. The way they create a game is very similar now to how they create a film. I've always wanted to stretch my acting skills, and the timing being what it is, I couldn't say no. (edit)
Josie Maran: Working on "Most Wanted" has been a great experience. If they'll have me back, I'd be happy to get with more games. (edit)
Josie Maran: The roughest part of that [model] lifestyle is the travel and early mornings. (edit)
Josie Maran: Part of the challenge of "Most Wanted" is trying to become the most notorious street racer on the pavement. (edit)
Josie Maran: Modeling isn't all that tough. (edit)
Josie Maran: Like most celebrities, of course, I adore all the Mario games. (edit)
Josie Maran: I've been in plenty of situations where someone I'm dating had more time for a console than me. (edit)
Josie Maran: I'm still figuring out why people would want to look at me. Maybe it's generic beauty, but it's weird to be valued for something I was born with. (edit)
Josie Maran: I have a Volvo S60R and it's a pretty fast car, the "R" says it all. (edit)
Josie Maran: I do like to drive fast and I have gotten pulled over in the past. I use my skills to get out of tickets. (edit)
Josie Maran: I did a little voiceover for the game they made out of Van Helsing, this movie I did, and it's kind of hard watching an animated figure of yourself. (edit)
Josie Maran: I could lie and tell you I'm a hardcore gamer. I'm not. (edit)
Josie Maran: I don't believe in marriage. I just don't think it's necessary in this day and age. I just think if you get married and you're already distrusting the person, why do you have to sign something to show your love? You just love. (edit)
Josie Maran: Red wine and sushi is my favorite. I like eel, yellowtail, and tuna, but I'm obsessed with sea urchin roe. Obsessed. I need it. When I eat it with my friends, I freak them out a little because it's almost orgasmic. I say, 'Can you guys feel it? 'They're, like, 'Whatever.' Eating it is an experience that I like to have alone. I love the creamy texture. (edit)
Josie Maran: I love talking about sex, but doing it is better. I'm good at psychology, and I'm good at lovin'. My dream is to have sex twice a day. Every time I get into bed, I want it. Guys are, like, 'Whoa, slow down!' For most guys it's time to sleep. I'm, like, 'No, it's not!' They can't keep up with me. And I don't believe in marriage. Why do people screw up a perfectly good thing with a contract? I just want to have fun, happy sex and romance. (edit)
Josie Maran: I would love to play the Femme Fatale or an action role like Trinity in the Matrix or something like that. You know, a part with a lot of costume changes. (edit)
Josie Maran: I'm really shallow when I come to guys. I only date really good looking, well-endowed guys, with great bodies. My friends are always going on at me. I'm like "I can't help it! I'm just a woman with high standards!" (edit)
Josie Maran: When I was younger, I wanted to be a sex therapist - a hipper Dr. Ruth. I've never had a boring conversation about sex. When you talk about sex, people come alive. My friends told me, `You know, guys are going to come to talk about their wives, but then they're going to want to sleep with you.' I figured I'd just wear a bag over my head. (edit)
Josie Maran: I'm usually a mellow, go-with-the-flow person, except when someone tells me I should do something. Then I get stubborn. If they don't back off, I get this horrible rage and want to kill them. When I was four and my mom would send me to my room, I'd get so mad I'd go outside and bang my head on the sidewalk. (edit)
