Julie Adams: Summary

Recent Role:
Betty Willens on CSI: NY
Gender:
Female
Birthday:
10-17-1926
Birthplace:
Waterloo, Iowa, USA
Birth Name:
Betty May Adams
AKA:
Betty Adams, Julia Adams
Born Betty May Adams on Oct 17, 1926 in Iowa, Julie was raised in Arkansas. She was still a young woman when she moved to California, working as a part-time secretary while taking speech lessons and auditioning for studio casting departments. Universal Studio executives changed her name to Julia (and later to Julie) when they signed her in 1951. Although she was wed to actor Ray Danton from 1954 to 1981, she has remained Julie Adams ever since.

Although she has had a magnificent career spanning over fifty years, Julie is resigned to the fact that she will always be remembered for playing bathing beauty Kay Lawrence (Universal publicists claimed that her legs were "the most perfectly symmetrical in the world" and were therefore insured for $125,000) : "No matter what you do, you can act your heart out, but people will always say, 'Oh, Julie Adams - Creature from the Black Lagoon.'"

In recent years, she has kept herself busy with guest appearances on a variety of television shows, including Murder, She Wrote, CSI: NY, and Lost - as well as appearing in commercials. And, for die-hard fans of the sci fi c she's remembered for, Julie has also appeared in two recent Creature from the Black Lagoon documentaries : Back to the Black Lagoon: A Creature Chronicle (2000) and Creature Feature: 50 Years of the Gill-Man (2004).
