Damages leads Golden Globe noms

FX's legal drama ropes in most noms with four; Heroes, Lost snubbed, Daisies scores three.

July's 59th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations announcement was soaked in love for The Sopranos (in its final season), Ugly Betty, and Heroes, all of which seemed to be nominated in just about every category they qualified for.

The 65th Golden Globe Awards nominees were announced today, and the aforementioned shows had decidedly different luck this morning, managing to rope in only two nominations total among the lot.

Damages leads all shows, with Rose Byrne getting a nod for best supporting actress.

While there are considerably fewer television-related categories at the Globes, the differences in nominations are still apparent. The Sopranos earned 15 nominations at this year's Emmys but managed only one nomination at the Globes (Edie Falco for Best Actress in a Drama). Ugly Betty, which led all comedies with 11 nominations at the Emmys, also managed only one Globe nomination (America Ferrera for Best Actress in a Comedy). Heroes fared even worse, with zero nominations.

With several seeing their Emmy-built pedestal knocked out from underneath them, other shows rose to the top. FX's Damages, which wasn't eligible for this year's Emmy awards, leads all series with four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Drama, Best Actress in a Drama (Glenn Close), Best Supporting Actress (Rose Byrne), and Best Supporting Actor (Ted Danson). FX finally broke its silence and announced last month that it was picking up the show for a second season.

This year's Golden Globes also mark the first time for many of this fall season's new shoes to strut their stuff at a major ceremony, and ABC's Pushing Daisies stood out from the rest. The fledgling dark comedy played tough with the big boys, hauling in three nominations, including Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy (Lee Pace), and Best Actress in a Comedy (Anna Friel).

The cast of Pushing Daisies is thrilled with three nominations.

Other new shows getting recognized were Showtime's Californication (Best Comedy, Best Actor in a Comedy for David Duchovny), AMC's Mad Men (Best Drama, Best Actor in a Drama for Jon Hamm), and ABC's Dirty Sexy Money (Supporting Actor for Donald Sutherland) and Samantha Who? (Best Actress in a Comedy for Christina Applegate).

Miniseries Longford tied Damages for most nominations with four, and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, 30 Rock, and Entourage tied for second with three nods each.

As for snubs, fan favorite Lost put up a goose egg, and critics' favorites The Wire and Friday Night Lights were also blanked.

In the film categories, American Gangster, There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, Atonement, Eastern Promises, The Great Debaters, and Michael Clayton are all vying for Best Drama. In the comedy or musical category, Across the Universe, Charlie Wilson's War, Hairspray, Juno, and Sweeney Todd are all nominated. Atonement leads all films with seven nominations.

Heroes was so disappointing this year, that I didn't think that they probably deserved to get any emmy nominations other then Jack Coleman for the role of HRG. I thought he was honestly the best part of Heroes Second Season.

How comes the Shield isn't even there? The year's season was better than 90% of all that crap and it still doesn't get nominations. Not even in the globe. :/

The Wire isn't nominated for Best Drama? Perlease, thus ends the credibility of this year's awards.

Posted 12/13/2007 3:28pm
Why would anyone even CONSIDER nominating Heroes...?! That show sucks... Who would they nominate? Hayden? Milo? Puh-leez...

GREAT news for Pushing Daisies and Damages... Love those two shows...

Friday night lights was snubbed... That show deserved a Best Drama series nomination for sure... And of course, Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton deserved nominations... Finally, Dexter is getting some recognition, although it should've got more than just 1 nom...

lost wasn't as good or better than the first season. the continue drop in ratings prove that
Posted 12/13/2007 1:33pm
this is great for 30rock
Posted 12/13/2007 1:32pm
Pushing Daisies! I'm so happy for them. I can't wait to see who wins.
Posted 12/13/2007 1:30pm
So Lost has a season that many fans believe was at least as good as the first, or perhaps even better, yet it still gets completely shutout??

Anyways, I'm not particularly impressed with the nominations this year, but in the last few years I haven't been anyways.
Posted 12/13/2007 1:06pm
Oh! And its fantastic that Damages leads the TV nods - it was a spectuclar first season!
Posted 12/13/2007 12:57pm
Rightly so Heroes got snubbed. This season was lackluster - however, I would of liked to have seen Milo or Hayden nominated.

And Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross! SNUBBED - disappointing seeing as though the roles they are playing this season are so wonderful and there acting is top notch.
