Richard is still not coping with early retirement but Hyacinth is excited at the prospect of all of the time they can spend together, in this episode she wants to go to the countryside and explore Iron-Age remains. hide show

Richard, it seems, will never come to terms with being forced to take early retirement. Hyacinth, however, finds the whole thing terribly exciting as she thinks of all the wonderful places she and Richard can visit and all the enjoyable cultural pursuits they can become involved in. To this end, armed with a map and a guide book, the Buckets drive out into the country to inspect some Iron-Age remains. This proves a little more difficult than it first appears as, when they arrive at their destination, they can't actually FIND any remains of any kind, although Hyacinth considers the 'lumps and depressions' in various parts of the ground must be significant.

Predictably, Richard is unable to summon up any enthusiasm for the venture and it shows. His attitude stresses Hyacinth greatly, particularly, as she later informs Elizabeth over coffee, when he refuses to speak to her when he is up a tree looking through binoculars in the hope of finding something of historical significance!

It seems as though Richard's trials at Hyacinth's hands will never end!
