When Kelly joined the Sharks, fans in San Jose were upset that he wore fan favorite Arturs Irbe's jersey number 32. They used to taunt him and chant "Irbe" whenever Kelly hit the ice.

Kelly: All players, stars or role players, deserve a voice concerning in which city they earn a living... They own that right, like we own the right to tell our employers, 'I don't want to work here any longer.'
