This show was a Saturday morning cartoon that was made by Filmation Productions and it was a whole hour. It featured two segments, "Shazam!" and "Hero High."

"Shazam!" featured a boy named Billy Batson, and whenever he spoke the name "Shazam!", he would transform into a superhero named "Captain Marvel." "He had a twin sister, Mary Batson who could become Mary Marvel by saying "Shazam" and a friend named Freddy Freeman who became Captain Marvel Junior by saying "Captain Marvel"

All the powers of six great gods and heroes have been gathered together and placed in the hands of boy broadcaster, Billy Batson. Whenever he says the name of the ancient wizard,"Shazam", he becomes the World's mightiest mortal Captain Marvel!

When evil has been defeated, Captain Marvel says the word again to become Billy. So amazing and sudden is the change that most people never realize what has happened.

I have this theory that Aurora was so beautiful, nothing could hurt her- "too beautiful for the sun to burn or the wind to pick upon" and thus grants Mary Marvel invulnerability of body while Minerva grants invulnerability of mind. Since the Cap is, Lord love him, a klutz, Mary having skill and grace could definitely come in handy.

"Hero High" focused on the adventures of super powered teenagers in high school that are learning how to be superheroes. Mr. Samson's the (elderly) principal & Miss Grimm's the teacher. The seven main students were; Captain California, Glorious Gal, Rex Ruthless, Dirty Trixie, Weatherman, Misty Magic & Punk Rock.

Extra characters include; Awol (a kid who could disappear), Bratman (little boy who cried & threw super tantrums), Peter Penguin (a trench-coat wearing bird ala Harpo Marx) & Giggler the hyena (who hanged with Rex & Trixie), Police Chief Hardy (Misty Magic's uncle who ran the police force).

Two cartoons per week, one at their high school while another had them solving cases with Chief Hardy.

There's also 4 live action segments featuring the seven Hero High characters. One would be the song of the week while the other three would be sketches that had corny jokes (think of it as either Laugh In Jr. or Hee Haw Jr.)

When Filmation had this idea, they wanted to use the Archie characters & title it Super Archies (Punk Rock & Misty Magic would've been the outside characters). But they lost the rights to Archie, they had to restructure the show.

  A comedy/variety show built around the old "Shazam" cartoon series. hide « show »

  I have dim memories of this show, but I obviously liked it enough at one time to create back stories for all the characters and give them adventures for after the show was gone. The series was basically this: a group of actors would play superheroes in live segments, sometimes pretending to play instruments, and lend their voices to accompany a cartoon that played alongside old "Shazam" cartoons. Truth be told, the cartoons were the comical and humorous "superhero" adventures of Captain Marvel, owned by DC Comics, but Marvel Comics had the rights to the name so the character could only appear under the name of his mentor. The show was actually a very cheesy and dated version of old Sixties and Seventies superhero fluff before costumed crimefighters became cool. The series is only best for nostalgia, but to kids, it was almost as good as the real thing before the money became available to really make a man fly.

  True, Filmation originally had planned to have the Archie characters to become Super Archies (Misty & Punk Rock would be the outside characters), but lost the rights from Radio Comics to do so. So they had to re-do the characters in the process.
  
  The live action segments had one song of the week & three sketches filled with corny jokes ala Laugh In or Hee Haw, you choose.
  
  Of the seven stars, only Maylo McCaslin would strike gold. She married Willie Aames in 1986 & became part of his Bibleman series. You might even say, Dirty Trixie dumped Rex Ruthless & married Bibleman (LOL)!

  Hero High reminds me of Riverdale High hide « show »

  I don't remember much about Shazzam, but I have a strong memory of "Hero High." It just another attempt by Filmmation to deag another Archie clone though the mud. It's like watching the Archies are dressed up in their costume and flying all over the place. And it's gets worse. There's a live animation segment where the same heroes played by actors who should be doing something swapping job what won't see the light of day on "Laugh-In." I would love to comment on "shazzam" but I turn the set off or change the channel every time I see "Hero High."

  was this the show where in between the cartoons you had actors dressed up as super heroes playing stupid songs in a band? if it is i remember it a little. i do remember the shazam cartoon. i have often wondered why it does not get replayed on boomerang. i guess i may never know.
