Kiefer Sutherland makes plea for drunk-driving arrest; opts for more jail time so 24 will keep on ticking.

Fox's number-one superagent is going to jail. Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest to drunken-driving charges stemming from an arrest two weeks ago, reports Reuters.

Maybe he's just going undercover in jail?

Maybe he's just going undercover in jail?

As part of the deal, which has yet to be approved by the presiding judge but was OKed by the prosecutors, Sutherland agreed to 48 days in jail--though the time won't be consecutive. The actor is looking to serve his sentence in two parts so as not to interfere with the production of the hit show he stars in, 24.

If the request is approved, Sutherland will spend 18 days in jail during the show's winter break in late December and early January. Once production wraps on the show's seventh season, Sutherland will return to the pen for an additional 30 days.

In fact, Sutherland reportedly opted for more jail time rather than see the production of 24 disrupted.

"He told us that even if he had to sacrifice more time in custody in order to protect the show and the jobs of those who work with him, he would do so," Fox reps told Reuters.

This wasn't the first time that Sutherland was caught tipsy behind the wheel. September's arrest was a violation of probation from a 2004 drunken-driving charge.

The seventh season of 24 is due to begin in January.

He has tons of money...and is a pretty smart guy. You'd think he would know not to do this.

DAM IT!!!

Why can't actors get themselves a designated river or simply pay a chaffeur.

I don't even drink so i don't know Y any 1 do that specially when he driving .
Posted 10/13/2007 3:35pm
Jail time won't keep him from drinking in the future.

It all depends on what the legal limit is.
This end of the universe 2 or 3 glasses of red or white wine & u are over the limit. IF he was so wasted he fell out of his car it would be a different story. We are all people & make mistakes, its how u deal with them counts

Chocking!!!! I've seen him in interviews and when he received the Emmy and People's Choice Awards 2007... He seems like a humble and straight-through nice guy... I hope that he never do one of these again!

He won't serve the 48 days and we all know it.
Real people, i.e. you and me, don't get to choose when we come and go from jail. I for one, am not impressed.

The right move - from a political standpoint. Still, I think I would have prefered he never got behind the wheel drunk in the first place. It's hard for young fans to distinguish between Bauer and Sutherland - whereas it would be "normal" for a Nova Scotian actor to get drunk behind the wheel, while such a prolific character as Jack Bauer being caught drunk serves as a terrible influence on the broader public. Not sure if that makes sense - let's just say I hope his time in jail smartens him up.

Now that is refreshing to hear, a celeb taking responsibility and doing the right thing after messing up. Kiefer is a real class act. (Yes he still is despite his few blunders.)

I think FrakkingFrakker makes a good point. Kudos to the man for setting up and admitting it, but would others less famous be afforded such leniency?

I know you all say he's a millionaire and he should of designated a driver, hailed a cab, etc. The problem tho... he was drunk. How many of you have been drunk and made a poor choice, caught or not? Also, there no knowing the exact circumstances that took place, $%@# happens believe it or not.

My biggest issue with DUI/DWI/etc is the whole basis on the "legal limit". So there basically saying that everyone is the same. Last I checked that wasn't the case, but who am I to disagree with the "system".

I agree with the "Get a Driver " message , Just call for a Limo or whatever , plus he is a repeat offender, I hope he doesnt do it again ...

I bet that they're going to find a way to work this into the show (they've always done that when a cast member gets injured).
Posted 10/10/2007 7:32pm
Really, really, REALLY dumb choice. I mean people get killed for that! But at least he took it like a man.
Posted 10/10/2007 7:24pm
stupid actions? yes. taken like a man? yes. some people should take note on how kiefer handled himself through this situation. no excuses, just accepting responsibility.
Posted 10/10/2007 6:18pm
DUDE get a driver you are like a millionaire come on marten the muck up
Posted 10/10/2007 4:05pm
Now that is a man who is willing to step up like that.
Posted 10/10/2007 4:04pm
It's good to know that 24 won't be put on hold...Kiefer may have made an extremely EXTREMELY idiotic choice, but at least he's dedicated enough to protect the show. Kiefer, you have the money! Designate a driver!

I approve of his actions, trying to make the jail time work with his series, but...on the other hand, dontcha think this sets an interesting and dangerous precedent?...Choosing when to serve your sentence. I doubt normal people would get this consideration, so on a certain level I don't think he should either.

Kiefer is a dumbass for drving drunk but at least he respect his lower actors jobs and 24 fans. Hope the judge is a 24 fan!!
Posted 10/10/2007 1:23pm
That shows the dedication of the guy towards the series
Posted 10/10/2007 12:43pm
Hm, atleast he's going to jail for his actions. Let's hope this time he won't do it again. I'm glad it's not going to prevent him from filming 24.
Posted 10/10/2007 12:42pm
At least he stepped up, but he should learn to call a cab...
Posted 10/10/2007 12:37pm
It's a shame to see Kiefer arrested for drunk-driving...
Posted 10/10/2007 12:31pm
48 days. Thats more time then Paris, Nicole and that guy that was supposed to to surve several years but George Bush let go.

Thats stupid. Oh well.
Posted 10/10/2007 12:24pm
I meant *wasn't* drunk-driving.
Posted 10/10/2007 12:24pm
It's nice to see someone who's willing to accept the consequences of his actions. Although I'd rather that he was drunk-driving in the first place.
