Star of 24 says playing terrorist-fighter is best career move ever.

Kiefer Sutherland knows never to look a gift action hero in the mouth.

Sutherland, who plays federal agent Jack Bauer on the hit Fox show 24, knows he's onto a good thing. Speaking this week at the TV Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, Sutherland acknowledged that Bauer is the best thing that has ever happened to his career.

"[It's] been the most amazing experience of my career," the Canadian-born actor said.

Sutherland said next season of 24 won't pick up immediately where season five left off, with Bauer in the hold of a cargo ship bound for China. Rather, it will take place more than a year later.

This tactic was used by the show once before. In the cliff-hanger ending to season two, President Palmer was the target of an assassination attempt--when the show returned for season three, time had passed and the assassination attempt was a distant memory.

Sutherland that said in the upcoming season his character will be a shell of man, tired of all the death that surrounded him in season five.

"[Bauer's] at the end of his line," the actor confided. "Something's going to have to really rejuvenate him from the position that he's in...he'll come from a really deep, dark place."

24 returns for its sixth season in January. Also this fall, Sutherland will perform a voice in the Fox animated series The Simpsons and will be heard as Raistlin Majere in the animated film Dragonlance.

I read somewhere that season six will take place about 18 months after season 5. That fits with classic 24. It will also explain why they do not film in China. It wouldn't be possible with the real time aspect. It would take 18 hours for him to get home to LA. I also heard the NYC but only as a rumor. The 18 months after, I read in an article that quoted the writer.

I read another article with Kiefer from this week's TV Guide and in that article he says that season 6 will take place only 2 months after the end of last season. Clearly in this article he has said it will be more than a year. If anyone else has noticed this contradiction please let me know.

every single season of 24 takes place more than a year later than the previous one, the reason why they are not going to contuinue the season 5 finale is because new viewers have to be able to follow up on whats going on, and having completely different days is what makes 24 not just another soap opera or those shows that usually get cancelled because of their long multi season story lines that push new viewers away. Anyways its better to have a new story, and who knows you dont even know what the story is about crayotic. If they completely started off where season 5 left off, Jack would be in china and how could he get back to america, it takes 14 hours to get from shanghai to los angeles, or basically any place in the U.S., come on dude think about it, dont watch season 6 like that, because they could always reference it.

Next season picks up a year later? I didn't like it when they did that with season 2, and I sure as heck don't like it now. Talk about lazy writing.

Before in a Rolling Stone interview, he said he felt like quitting the show (but he also said that's just what he feels, and that he never would really do it) due to its stress. I guess he's decided against it or something now.

No offense to the writer, but "duuuuuh", of course Kiefer Sutherland loves his role on 24 (as do many of his fans). Not only does he have leverage with/against FOX, who could even replace him now after 4 seasons? I'm sure he won't be poor for a while. Keifer Sutherland = King of the Weekday-world.

24 is without a doubt the best drama on TV and Kiefer Sutherland deserves this year's Emmy.

I haven't seen many of Kiefer's works, but he tends to play his parts very well. The role of Jack Bauer seems to fit him like a glove.

Jack Bauer really is the king of the TV Jacks (and there are a lot). Sutherland's easily the best actor on television as well. I can't wait for season 6 of 24 (just too bad they knocked off the remaining characters from season 1).

did anyone see the mini-series ''the hedes factor''?[it started in uk a week or 2 ago] its star ,steven droff, is a picture of jack/kiefer. maybe if 24 continues for many years or becomes a film francaise after the first movie, they could change actors when kiefer gets too old and give droff the part!!!he was fantasic in the hades factor, part 1 of 4,but its a shame that was the only good thing about the show!!!

His Simpsons episode sounds very intresting. It releases Nov. 12. Plot: After Bart gets out of a commitment to join the Army at 18, Homer falls prey to a couple of Army recruiters and lands himself in basic training. Homer, of course, treats this like summer camp and infuriates his hard-nosed colonel (Kiefer Sutherland) when he is unfazed by the constant hazing and humiliation. I for one am glad that he chose the part. He does a great job of playing a sort of bad good guy. So much of TV is black and white...Sutherland gives us shades of gray with Jack. ----------------------------------------------------- www.tvrecaps.net
