After schooling on Canada's Vancouver Island Cattrall decided to study acting at the prestigious Banff Academy for the Performing Arts in Alberta, Canada. She then moved on to London where she studied the dramatic arts.

While her tenure in both Banff and London was brief Cattrall was able to parlay her youthful good looks into several acting jobs that set the tone for her career. Her first role, in Otto Preminger's Rosebud introduced Hollywood to Cattrall. She quickly appeared in several films and the mini-series Scruples for ABC in 1980.

After decades of steady, if unspectacular, work Cattrall's career was beginning to fall into decay. Uncomfortable with life in Los Angeles, Cattrall, after serious prodding from her agent, took the role of the adventurous Samantha Jones in the smash HBO series Sex and the City which would net Cattrall both a SAG Award and a Golden Globe along with five Emmy nominations.

In 2002 Cattrall wrote a sex advice book entitled Satisfaction: The Art Of The Female Orgasm which enjoyed several weeks on the New York Times Bestseller List. Through her production company, Fertile Ground Productions, Cattrall has produced a documentary on the history of sex.

Thrice divorced Cattrall has commented that she was a "serial monogomist" and that now, in 2005, it is "time to swing!"

Kim is the reason to adore Sex And The City Show. She's the first female character to speak so openly about sex and all related topics. Poeple hate her or they love her, simpley as that. Not to be judging her acting skills, but they come in second with the imposing character like Samantha. Kim kind of became Samantha in our eyes and I think that she's never gonna get out of that shoes. But there's nothing bad about that fact, because she should hold on to the integrity of Samanthas principles, and be that independent, overweening and standalone woman, the one many are trying to be or judge strongly. Her lines somethimes sound slike they're coming from the man figure ..
Samantha: "This is ... Uh .."
The Guy: "Alan."
Samantha: "Yeeees. Alan. ... We .... Uh .."
The Guy: "Fuc***"
Samantha: "Yeees."
Samantha (just moving lips): "Don't know."

There are several reasons why I really admire Kim Cattrall. First of all, she is Canadian, and so am I. Although I am an Asian Canadian, I take pride in what successful Canadian women do in the world. She is definitely one of the finest examples of what Canadian women are able to accomplish! Second of all, her role as Samantha Jones in Sex and the City is mind blowing. She is actually my favourite character in the show despite my personal similarties with Carrie Bradshaw. I really look up to Samantha in Sex and the City. I remember this one time at a restaurant Carrie bumps into Big and his date, Big and Samantha have an argument. Big wants to stay in Carrie's life but just to be friends, and Samantha knows that Carrie still has feelings for him and does not want Big to break her heart. She says her friend is very fragile and wants him to back off. Man, she is amazing in that moment! I have always wished I had a friend like that. Last but not least, she is a talented actress! Her performances always rock. Canadian women rule!

Kim Victoria Cattrall was born on August 21, 1956 in England. Kim began her career at the age of 16 when moved to New York City alone. There she attended school for acting and began landing roles in films about eight years later. One of Kim's best known movie roles was Porky's which was filmed in 1982. In 1997, Kim was asked to be in HBO's new series Sex and the City. Creators of the show knew Kim was perfect for the role of Samantha Jones, the sexual provocateur. Kim took on Samantha's character brilliantly. Sex and the City would not have been the success it was without Kim Cattrall as Samantha Jones.

Being more reserved myself, having a character like Samantha that mouths off about being a trisexual cause she'll try anything once is fantastic. She looks into a world more brisque and unlimiting as opposed to the other women. She's fresh, blunt, indulging and in later seasons, we see that even someone as hardcore as Samantha is human too.

Cattrail's previous roles disappear when she's plays Samantha leaving nothing but a trace of a great actress playing an outstanding role.
