Kolchak writes an obituary for a deceased scientist, but soon becomes involved in further investigation when no one can give him a straight answer on how the scientist died. Meanwhile, a mysterious figure goes on a rampage throughout Chicago, stealing morticians' wax and Halloween masks. Kolchak eventually finds out that the scientist was working on Project R.I.N.G.: the development of an artificially intelligent robot. R.I.N.G. killed his creator rather than be shut down, and now the government is hunting it. Kolchak must find where the robot is hiding and reveal the story before the government catch up to R.I.N.G. The first murder takes place on April 2, and Carl spends April 3 investigating. But the next day he says is April 3 again when he goes to Dwyer's apartment. Later that day, he learns that Mrs. Walker has sold her house and collected her insurance (and is preparing to move on). Anyone who has actually sold a house or collected insurance knows it takes far longer than a day. edit »
Despite the fact that earlier the military had instructed Akins not to shoot the robot, the military arrive at Dwyer's house later and open fire on it almost immediately. edit »

They were discovered, and the scandal eventually cost Nixon his presidency and his reputation. One of the most far reaching political scandals ever, it generated tremendous amounts of news coverage.
