For those who do not yet know, Darren McGavin passed away on February 25, 2006 at 7:15 am. He will surely be missed.

In so many of his roles as either a private detective or a newspaper reporter, from the 1950s Mike Hammer to the 1960s The Outsider to the 1970s The Night Stalker, Darren McGavin represented downtrodden seekers of truth and justice. As an actor, he exhibited near perfection in the art of voice-over narration, a device for bringing the beauty of the written word to the silver screen, which in my opinion is too infrequently used outside of documentaries.

McGavin also loaned his voice and acting talent to theater and to books-on-tapes.

Before the series, McGavin starred in a movie as Carl Kolchak. Appparently, the episode "The Vampire" is a kind of sequel to the movie. Any thoughts, anyone?
