Konnie Huq: Summary
Konnie Huq (the surname comes from a Bangladeshi grandfather) is best-known as a presenter on the long-running Children's TV show Blue Peter. She actually made her TV debut on the show at the age of 14 when she appeared with the National Youth Orchestra.
She also made various other early TV appearances in her own right, including the obscure satellite show "TVFM" at the age of 16, a GMTV educational show "Eat Your Words" and an appearance on "Newsround" at the time of the 1992 general election when she got to interview the Prime Minister, John Major.
But Konnie's biggest break came later, after graduating from Cambridge Univeristy with a first in Economics, when she became a presenter on Blue Peter. Her natural enthusiasm, rapport with her co-hosts and her highly individual turns of phrase ("that's pretty hardcore!") have made her one of the show's most popular presenters - not so much a substitute parent (as previous presenters had tended to be), but a lively, entertaining surrogate "older sister" to a generation of viewers.
She also presented the CBBC channel's UK Top 40 show from its debut in 2002 until September 2004.
Konnie's blood group is AB-.
