Larry Miller was born on October 15, 1953 in Long Island, New York. He grew up there with a keen interest in music. He went to Amherst College and graduated with a degree in music. Hoping to make it as a professional musician he moved to New York City and began playing at nightclubs as a pianist and drummer.
Working in nightclubs inspired Miller to take a stab at stand up comedy. He started performing occasionally at clubs like the Comic Strip and Catch a Rising Star. Within two years his idea of becoming a professional musician was put aside and he was touring full-time as a comedian.
He made his film debut in the 1978 movie Take Down, but it would be several more years before he found himself before the camera again. As his career as a standup comic rose, Larry Miller began landing occasional television guest spots and bit parts in films, as well as appearing on several cable television specials devoted to comedians. Miller's appearance in the film Pretty Woman gave his on-screen career a push in the right direction. His brief moment in the film earned big laughs and he soon began making frequent appearances in movies and on television.
