- Dr. Morton refers to the DSM-IV in his testimony. This is the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders" and the "IV" refers to the fourth edition. The DSM-IV is the standard, set by the American Psychiatric Association, for diagnosing mental disorders. edit »
- This case seems to be ripped from the headlines of the Eric Smith murder case. In 1993, Eric (then 13) killed 4 year-old Derrick Robie by choking and batterring him to death. Like Jake in this episode, Eric seemed to enjoy killing the boy and even went as far as to offer his "help" to the police, only to be caught when his story didn't support the facts. He was convicted of murder in the second degree. edit »
