Episode Summary

Benson saves April Troost from committing suicide, but feels responsible when Troost dies during the trial of the man she accuses of raping her and getting her pregnant. It isn't long before detectives learn that Barclay Pallister wasn't the only man April picked up in a bar who has no recollection of sleeping with her, and the squad realizes that Troost was no victim. Their search takes them from prospective parents looking to adopt her child to the men she drugged and accosted to the sperm center she used to work at, which ends up at the center of the case.

Great episode, but very confusing! hide show

When I first watched this episode, I must admit that I was really confused at first. I thought April died in the car crash, only to have Olivia discover that she's alive...then who died??!! And the acting as usual, was top notch. I just wish Olivia wasn't always the one who felt guilty about trying to help someone, only to have the "victim" turn out to be the bad guy (girl). There were many twists and turns which I thought were great. We're lead to believe that this renowned doctor is a rapist only to find out that the girl he supposedly raped is in a way, the rapist! It was actually kind of fun to see the other side win for once. It rarely happens on the show, but when it does it truly makes for a great episode.

This was an amazing episode. The blonde is SO hot and it was so cool to see the bad guys win!!! or bad girls that is. hide show

I really liked the writing of this episode and the blonde named Estelle Warren should be in more shows and movies. She is stunning to look at!! Her lips and eyes are awesome!!

Linda Carter had a part in it too. The two of them were brilliant masterminds!! Now I need more words to take up the space. Wow I cannot believe it has to be 100 words long. I will just have to keep typing until I can reach 100. Wow it is taking a long time to get there. I think I am almost there. I thought I was there whew now I am there.

Law and Order Special Victims Unit! hide show

Detective Olivia Benson is called to a scene after April Troost cries rape during an attempted suicide. When April gives up the name of her attacker, the Detectives of the Special Victims Unit convince her to press charges. However, the charges increase to homicide when April is found dead. But after investigating further, they find that this whole situation may have been a set up.

This was a good episode. You are convinced that April really is a victim the whole time but then you realize that she is the puppet master pulling the strings on the entire situation. You can tell that this really affected Olivia because she believed April and was taken for a fool.

This episode was just too strange. hide show

This is a great example of the fact that people are thinking up the weirdest sex crimes. As Fin puts it, "Damn, who thinks this stuff up??" I suppose the twist when April is found alive and guilty, and shows no remorse, is the worst part. Poor Olivia, she was tricked from the start. No wonder the whole team is pissed, but when the issue becomes the baby, the search is on. Novak does some work with trying to disclose the information of the wherabouts of the baby, and ends up having to let Troost go. However, the baby is found.

This is definitely one of the best episodes from SVU. hide show

The writing was great, the guest actors were superb. Every other scene, all I could think was "wow." It's hard to believe people could be so cold-blooded, and there are no innocent characters in this episode and the poor victim is the newborn baby.

It was great getting to see more of Olivia's personal struggle. And it definitely was a suprise to see her get played. Kudos to the writers, not just for doing another great episode, but also for 'commenting' on a growing issue (genetics).

  • Nitpick: Since all plea bargains are subject to the discretion of the court and not the ADA, it's unlikely that April Troost could just walk off because Novak said that she could, especially considering she was still under arrest. []
  • Nitpick: No one in Pallister's laboratory is wearing eye protection, which could get him in serious trouble with OSHA should they ever find out about it. []
  • They were able to charge McManus with stealing sperm, but in "Waste" and "Birthright", they were unable to charge doctors with stealing women's eggs because 'body parts have no monetary value'. If that holds true for eggs, then it should also hold true for sperm. []

Czech Republic – January 15, 2009 on TV Nova []
  • This is far from the first time that NBC has featured a female character who used date rape drugs to rape her male partners. In the mid-1990s, the character of Sami Brady on Days of our Lives used a date rape drug to accost her sister's fiancé, and in 2004, the character of Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald on Passions used a date-rape drug to accost her former fiancé in the hopes of getting pregnant. • Bobby Flay is the real-life husband of former castmember Stephanie March. []
More Notes
  • April Troost: You were my friend. You promised to protect me.
Olivia Benson: When you were a rape victim, not a rapist. []
  • Barclay Pallister: I didn't touch her!
Olivia Benson: Immaculate conception's not gonna hold up in court, so why don't you try again? []
  • Barclay Pallister: She left me after you charged me with rape.
Elliot Stabler: Well, if the screw fits. []

  • When Stabler refers to April's father as Dr. Mengele, he is referring to Josef Mengele, the Holocaust scientist also known as the Angel of Death who decided who lived and who died based on their appearances and perceived physical imperfections, and routinely performed brutal experiments on his victims. He was part of Adolf Hitler's plan to breed a master race. []
  • Stabler: You're nothing but a Nazi trying to engineer a master race.

Stabler is comparing McManus to Adolf Hitler, the leader of Germany's National Socialist party back in the 1930s and 1940s. Hitler wanted to create a 'master race' of people with certain colorings and physical characteristics, and his efforts to eliminate those he considered undesirable resulted in the Holocaust, the most large-scale of all historic mass murders. The term Nazi originated as an insult that was directed to the party, and is now used as a term for the political party itself as well as those who still believe in Hitler's ideology of the master race.
