Anita van Buren: Detective Lupo's history is just that -- history.
(edit)
Anita van Buren: I know you've had some rough spots before . . .
Cyrus Lupo: Rough spots? I fell asleep hung over in my car while my partner was shot getting coffee in a bodega. (edit) Ms. Sanders: You're out of control. Isn't that the bottom line on you, Mr. McCoy?
Jack McCoy (testifying): The bottom line, Ms. Sanders? Where there's a law, I'll enforce it; where there's a crime I'll prosecute it, and where there's a victim ... I will speak for that victim. That's my bottom line.
Ms. Sanders: No more questions for this witness. (edit) Chief Barenko: We don't need more civilian oversight. (edit) (Passing the protesters in cages.)
Cyrus Lupo: This is a hell of an idea, to keep people like this.
Ed Green: Oh right, you were out of the country they started this in '04 to control protesters during the Republican convention. (pauses) This ain't the same country you left. (edit)

GOOF: "Auxiliary" is misspelled in the title card as "Auxilliary Police Headquarters".
(edit)
While on the stand, Jack McCoy also states how he was reigned in for 'prosecuting a bunch of Russian gangsters who killed a prosecutor and almost blew up a police station'. He is referring to the two-part Refuge episodes.
(edit)
A lawyer refers to Jack McCoy being involved in a case against a gun manufacturer and the verdict being set aside by the judge. This happened during the episode Gunshow.
(edit)
Cyrus Lupo can read Spanish.
(edit)
McCoy "quotes" Dylan Thomas (almost) in this episode. The real quote is "Do not go gentle into that good night." It is from a 1951 poem. McCoy purposely uses "quietly" in his line, "Lathem, I should have known he wouldn't go quietly into that good night."
(edit)
Ed Green: They started doing this in '04 to control protesters during the Republican convention; this ain't the same country you left.
This is an inaccurate reference to the protesters at the 2004 presidential Democratic convention who were forced to be in a "free speech pen." It has been a common practice for protesters of Bush to be moved to a remote location (a 3rd of a mile away from his path) that would not be seen by Bush. The final part of the comment is a reference to the loss of civil liberties in this country in the last seven years and how this country has strayed from its founding ideals. (edit) Jack McCoy: No one ever went to jail for shooting four unarmed students at Kent State 37 years ago.
The students killed at Kent State University on May 4, 1970 were Allison Krause, Jeffrey Miller, Sandra Scheuer, and William Knox Schroeder. They were shot by National Guardsmen attempting to break up an anti-war demonstration. Nine other students were injured. The last two victims were not even involved in the protest; they just happened to be in the area. (edit) Cyrus Lupo: You want to see a police riot, go to Pakistan.
Benazir Bhutto was assassinated on December 27, 2007 while running for Prime Minister of Pakistan. She was a former Pakistani Prime Minister and a strong critic of the country's current government (a military dictatorship led by Pervez Musharraf). Many people in Pakistan blamed Musharraf's government for the assassination; in the days afterward, there were many violent riots. (edit) This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of a 2007 immigration rally in Los Angeles where police clashed with protestors at MacArthur Park. (edit)

IllegalSuperb "Another great installment" A former immigrant, who is now an auxillary police officer, shoots another legal immigrant during an immigration rally - presumably at the order of a superior. There is no gun to match the bullet to, and that puts the prosecution in doubt. Continue » Posted Feb 14, 2008 3:06 pm PST |
