Lt. Blair is said to have trained for carrier landing on the Minnesota. There was a wooden steam frigate called the USS Minnesota in service from 1855-1898. A battleship of the same name was active from 1905-1927. There has been no U.S. Naval ship with that name since then. edit »
The suspect is the Chief Aviation Mechanics Mate on the U.S.S. Mendenhall (CV 80). As of the airing of this episode, the highest numbered carrier in the Navy was the not-yet-commissioned U.S.S. Ronald Reagan (CV 76). The carrier may have been named in honor of Lt. Cmdr. Corwin Mendenhall, who was commanding officer of the U.S.S. Catfish SS-339 from 1948 to 1950. edit »
