- This episode appears to be ripped from the headlines of the Bernie Kerik scandal. Bernard Bailey Kerik was the police commissioner of the city of New York from 2000 to 2001, and in December 2004 was nominated by George W. Bush to become the Secretary of Homeland Security. Kerik initially accepted the invitation, but later declined after media scrutiny exposed his hiring of an illegal alien as his nanny/housekeeper as well as his failure to pay taxes required for her employment, and also his two extramarital affairs. edit »
