Returning Series
January 21, 2009
Lightman investigates what he thinks may be a dirty cover-up, involving the Governor of Virginia and the the death of a young campaign worker killed by the shooter who was supposedly trying to kill the Governor.
Lightman finds himself in a complex situation when his gambling problem risks being exposed as one of the fighters from the underground fight club where he gambles is found dead. Meanwhile, Foster's romance with Dr. Burns gets complicated when she uncovers a troubling secret.
Inspired by a real-life behavioral scientist, this FOX drama tells the tale of a deception expert who helps uncover the truth for the FBI, local police, law firms, corporations, and individuals. Dr. Cal Lightman and his team are effectively human polygraph machines, and no truth can be concealed… More from them. The Lightman Group is headed by Dr. Cal Lightman and his partner Dr. Gillian Foster who is a gifted psychologist. She brings balance to the partnership by thinking about the overall picture while Lightman focuses on the details. Together they make an invincible team with insight into human behavior. Eli Loker is the lead researcher, who believes in radical honesty. He often gets in trouble for saying what he thinks. Ria Torres is one of the few "naturals" in the field of deception detection. She has an untapped ability to read people that makes her a force to be reckoned with the right training. Created by Sam Baum, Lie to Me is executive-produced by Baum, Brian Grazer, David Nevins and Steve Maeda. The series is produced by Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox Television.

Hello, I am looking for the episode of Lie to me in which an unconscious bias test on racial prejudice is taken by policemen. Does anyone remember in which show it happens ( I would have said season 1 but not so sure). And if you even know at what point it happens in that episode, … More even better Thanks in advance for your help. Flo
Best TV series on a long time. You want suspence and intelligent acting - you get it. But - I have some notes here and there.... ;) hide show
Well, I am sure most people would say only how fascinated they are. So I would consider that as a part of my review also. What I'd like to add is something that wouldn't change my general opinion over the film series. It is just something that annoys me now and then. Just a little bit. Somehow, I think Tim Roth is very genuine in his roleplay, but somehow, he is overreacting at some points. I mean - you can not work with/for government officials, lead such an impressive organisation and fool around like some kind of sociopat. That part of his acting (or his character, I don't know who exactly to critisize) is kind of making me feel weird. I am not telling he is supposed to be very tough and serious personality, like James Bond for instance, seeding autocracy everywhere. He (dr. Lightman) is just overreacting with his excentric and extraordinary behaviour, which some may even like the most. And I am totally fine with that. So, to drop the line - IT IS AWESOME. The whole series. Characters - well done, Episode scenarios - well done. Oh, only one more thing - If future scenarious try to run away from criminal and/or action story lines that you might see in any other criminal TV series, and focus on extraordinary psichologigal issues - this would keep the show longer on top !
Finally something to make me turn on the TV! :o) hide show
I loved this show! I am so sick of reality tv! This is like a breath of fresh air! Tim Roth is amazing in this role. I love the mystery and intrigue, and with the addition of a deception expert, it has just the hook to make this show different and a must see! Once you see a show you will not be able to miss one episode! Our family has bought Season One on DVD, and has been waiting for Season Two! I am so glad to hear that this show has not been cancelled. Please, spread the news...
Fantastic show. I love the depth of it. you really have to watch it to get it, I mean really watch it! it's great! Every one's talking about it. When it was moved to another night we freaked! But we found it on Monday nights, guess that's ok. But I loved it after House, 2 great shows neck to neck! doesn't get any better than that. Keep this show on the air, there's something about it that intrigues us. It's better than a "who done it", it's more of a "you thought you would get away with it, Ha!" Good stuff.

This is definitely different. hide show
When I first watched this show I wasn't sure what to think of it. But I kept watching and I just finished season 1.
I have to say it surprised me because after a rather slow start we got more insight into the characters, some surprising turns within the cases they were working on and a fair amount of character development. I might even forgive Fox for the underwhelming final episode (especially after episode 12 was so well written).
Considering all the pros and cons that are floating in my head (and that I won't write because nobody will take the time to read them anyway) I give it an 8/10 rating. I'm curious what the writers have in mind for the second season.
Tim Roth is excellent in Lie to Me. His expertise in deception is required in an myriad of different situations so each episode is new and exciting. The characters and acting are very good too and it's a long time since I have enjoyed a show so thoroughly hide show
Tim Roth is excellent in Lie to Me. This is the main reason I love this show so much. There are a larger number of British actors on the American TV screens than you might think and almost all of them play Americans. The fact that Tim Roth's character is British makes me love this fusion of high American production values and great writing with a touch of British-ness about it all the more. Cal Lightman actually reminds me a bit of my dad which is really fun to watch when he's flying off to Afghanistan or the World Poker series and generally bumbling about calling everybody's bluff! The fact that his character, Cal can tell if someone is lying is great although I think it could become a little bit silly if the acting wasn't so good. To me, I actually forget he is acting and am completely sucking into the whole world of Lie to Me. My disbelief is 100% suspended and every episode I have watched has thrilled me. I can't really think of another entire show that I have felt this about apart from, perhaps, The West Wing(although only seasons 1-4!). The supporting cast is small but perfectly formed and the show doesn't get too fake science-y to support ridiculous episode arcs. The show mixes in reality with the different clients Cal's consultancy has to deal with and it includes enough normality to show the practical implications of living/working with someone who you can't easily deceive. I really look forward to new episodes of Lie to Me as I think it is perfect entertainment. It has excellent acting; strong, believable characters; an original permise that serves as good escapism and license to create wildly varying storylines that keep you surprised week to week. I love the writing and the general feel of the show; it has serious themes but manages to keep itself upbeat with sensitive and comic moments, of which all the actors are capable of switching between easily.
I recommend this show heartily.
