When rock star Sebastian Grace receives a death threat, Sam and Chris are exposed to the rock-and-roll lifestyle. Things really get strange when Chris finds Sebastian and his groupie "Rocket Girl" waiting for UFOs in the swampy area of New Jersey known as the Meadowlands.

I am going to say it in every review I do of this show. Why did it have to be cancelled? This is and was a great show that should have been given another season. It has a great plot, about a cop traveling from present time to 1973. In this episode a rocker named Sebastian Grace is receiving death threats and Chris is put on the case. Sebastian and one of his groupies named Rocket Girl get away and go out to a swamp in New Jersey known as the Meadowlands. Chris catches up to them and Sebastian give him some grape soda laced wit LSD. They all think a UFO took her away but she was pushed into the marsh by the propulsion of an experimental aircraft.
The Lieutenant finds out the Sam was fooling around in the filing room with a girl and initially believes it is Anne. In the end he finds out it was his daughter.

Cops in 1973 have some great one liners. I especially like some of the extremely un PC things Ray says to people. I thought I would always see him as Christopher from the Sopranos but I don't on Life on Mars. He is really making the Ray character is own! I love all of Sam's stories. I think Chris is adorable; so sweet and innocent. However at the end of last weeks episode we see the person that had been calling Sam and messing with him and I'm not sure why but I think it's Chris.

In this episode we get to see Chris Skelton's character develop a bit more. Who would have thought that a straight-laced geek detective would be into a cross-dressing glam rock band? We also get some more insight into Lt. Hunt's background with his daughters and how protective he is. Sam's romance with Hunt's daughter increases the audience's tension concerning Sam's already strained relationship with Anne. The "alien plot" almost thickens, but only provides for some thought-provoking dialog about Sam's situation. It's always great to see Wallace Shawn. He's a favorite character actor.
I enjoyed researching "Sebastian Grace and The Electric Insects." I thought it was well-played to use an obscure one-hit-wonder from 1973 as the main plot. It makes the audience wonder if it was a real event -- and it turns out that Sebastian Grace was a real person! Although the events in the story are fiction, the persona of Grace seemed to be well represented. The song, "Last Planet I Kissed", was remastered for the show. And the name of one of the main guest characters, Rocket Girl, is an homage to Grace's attempt to produce a solo album called "Cosmic Background Radiation: Hymnals For A Rocket Girl", which was never released. So maybe this really did happen to Grace....???? ;-)
I thought the scenes with Grace and Anne discussing their differences and similarities were some of the best of the series. Very well written!
