Lois and Clark's parents show up to spend Christmas with them. Mindy Church reorganizes the Intergang and creates a Kryptonian virus to make Superman die. Now and for the first time in his life Clark is sick, but this sickness can kill him, unless Sam Lane helps him with a risky recovering process.

This show always seems to do Chrismas episodes so well, they've done it again. This is the second Christmas episode for the show.
I feel that the only flaw in the story has to be the Baby Gunderson android from Lois's father. It was obviously an unnessary Dexus Ex Machina device in a certain situation that Lois and Clark could have figured out themselves. Also she was just all too silly and wooden.
But that's a flaw that can easily be looked over. The real focus is on both the parients and Lois and Clark. The theme is on trobled relations, family, loss, and how love for another person never dies. We pritty much know the Kents, their good natured level headed people, but for the first time we get to see Lois's faimly. Her mom is a slightly sympathetic character since she was a former alcholic and is suffering from a long depression she hasn't completely gotten over as well as became a bit nerotic about the concept of love and commitment. The dad is no better, after all he did abandon both Lois and her mom for an understandable but not completely good reason. And might have a bit of a social detachement complex, since he is dating an android he built (which I'll admit is kinda creepy.). We don't really like both of them at first but as the story develops when their good qualities suface we begin to warm up to them as Lois begins to love them a little again.
Dean Cain does a great job portraying the man of steel suffering and dying from the worst kind of enimy, an incurable biological virus. Sure Superman has been in near death situations more than once when it came to Kriptonite, but the Kriptonite in those times was solid rock that Superman could at least physically get away from. But when it comes to disease there is no where you can really run to hide. Teri Hacher shows Lois in distress, we don't see her cry but from the look on her face imbedded with the knoledge that the person she loves is dying, you can tell she is crying on the inside as well as clinging onto a little shred of hope. Even both families are in distress, the Kents are possibly going to lose their only son and the Lane's I'm not completely sure whether they know Clark is Superman or not dispite Lois hiding his identity from them, but you sense the same amount of distress as the Kents, the fact their going to lose their son-in-law.
This is one of the reason's I feel it's one of the best Christmas episodes ever. Hope and love are sometimes the only things that people have to bring light to the midst of darkness.

I recently rewatched this episode and if you discount the silliness of Baby Gunderson this is one of the most heartfelt episodes of the series.
Dean Cain does an awesome job of portraying a very ill and dying Superman and Teri Hatcher has some of her best moments as Lois. Their heartfelt exchange while Superman is falling under the influence of kryptonite to save his life couldn't have felt more real. It also illustrates the incredibile feeling of connection that Lois and Clark have always felt for one another.
In my opinion this is the best Holiday show that the series did because it brings together the miracle of Christmas and the closeness of the family. Not one to be missed.
