Suspicions about a possible breach intensify after Ben is taken from the infirmary, and a reluctant Miles is forced to work with Hurley when he's asked to deliver an important package to a top DHARMA official.

Plot Details/Objective -» Wasn´t expecting that miles and Dan would had their flashbacks so soon, I thought that would happen in the Season 6, because in season 6, the pay off will be great, since almost, if not all mysteries will be revealed and explained. But as expected, Miles flashbacks doesn´t reveal anything more than the emotional problem that Miles have, that is nothing more than is father. But tying him to the Island was a clever move, and his emotional problem is explored here, more than his special ability to talk to death people.
What I Like/Disliked -» Hugo and Miles conversation was good. The episode was slow, but had nice interactions. The flashbacks didn´t add anything, only to make the point about Miles emotional problem.
Overall:
Presentation -» (8/10). Miles mission was a little intriguing. Is easy to guest by his mother, who is father was/is.
Complication Phase -» (7/10). I think was more about going to one side to another and making Hurley and Miles interaction, I mean, to structure a dialogue, the writers needed someone and Hugo was a perfect choice. There is also a hint about someone that was in the Ajira Flight, which means that there are persons that were on that plane that already knew that they would go to the Island, what is their objective is something to be discovered. Climax -» (6/10). Since this is Miles episode, the climax would be when he was watching his father with himself (when he was a baby) and then when his father call him.
Cliffhanger/Ending -» (7/10). More about making you curious since Daniel can bring a new problem/mission for our favorites survivors.
Time and Scenes Management -» (6/10). The writes need only five scenes to structure a flashback, but in Miles case, I seemed more filler than other previous flashbacks. The situation in The Island dragged a little bit too.
Dialogues -» (8/10). Hugo and Miles had a great interaction.
Action /Adventure -» (6/10). Just moving to a place to another and conversation.
Drama/Emotions -» (7/10). Since Miles want to know why he has this ability, then is drama about his father can be fair.
Suspense/Tension -» None.
Mystery/Curiosity/Doubts/Hints -» (7/10). There is a hint that make the game in the present be in another level. Surprise/Twists -» (7/10). Seeing someone in Miles flashbacks that we already saw in AJira Flight was a surprise, since this can mean that are people working for someone in the Island, may be for Jacob?
It isn´t the fact that this episode is bad, this episode is just entertainment, while is avoiding the Main Problem and the Final plot that will role in the next episode, but you have great dialogues there and a hint for the future episodes. I was less judgmental this time and rate it a 7, instead of 6,5.
A Miles centric episode. hide show
Another great installment lost with some thickening of the plot. This is a Miles centric Episode. The episode starts of with Miles as a child, showcasing his abilities to hear the dead at a young age. The major part of the episode is Miles hate for his father, who we find out later to be the Dr. Chang from the Dharma tapes. Horace tells Miles to deliver a package for him and pick something up. It turns out to be a dead body and Miles takes the body back to Horace for instructions. He is told by Horace to take the body out to Dr. Chang. Hurley has hijacked Miles van to take sandwiches out to a work crew where Dr. Chang is. Ben's father Roger finds out that Ben is missing and threatens to go to Security. Kate tries to console Ben's father and he immediately thinks she had something to do with Ben's disappearance. Phil comes to Sawyer and tells him there is a development in case of Ben being missing and tells him he knows he did it. The go into Sawyer's House and Sawyer knocks him out and ties him up.
A lady named Naomi Dorrit approaches Miles in real time to join a crew on a boat to find the island. Miles is later kidnapped by a group of men working for an unknown source to try and stop him.
At the end of the episode the submarine is bringing scientists to the island and Miles Greets Daniel Faraday.
Miles background and connection to Pierre Chang / Marvin Candle were thoroughly explored here. hide show
This was another great episode for explaining the background and connections of a character who has been fairly one dimensional until now - namely Miles. In addition, there were a lot of Hurley scenes here and they are always entertaining. I loved the fact he was rewriting 'The Empire Strikes Back' to help out George Lucas! The final surprise of seeing Daniel again (with his brain working again) was also well done and a great closing scene. The scene in the schoolroom with Jack and Roger was also particularly well handled. The episode sets things up nicely for the next installment.
Rewriting starwars.. hide show
Mm.. when last episode was about fathers and daughters then now the family theme continues. I was positively surprised about Miles episode - he is not char you expect to get that but there was quite interesting story. The beginning of the episode was better - the dynamic, writing and while the episode went, the story somehow faded. I did liked the Miles storyline.. but hey.. how many people are we going to accept that they came to island.. and now find their family there?
Anyway.. the ending was shocking.. did not expect Faraday back but glad to have him around.. and the whole thing with hatch.. the good thing in past is that we see how those things we have discovered came to be.
The weakest episode of the season, but a far cry from the kind of mediocre travesties that plague other contemporary American television serials (Sarah Connor Chronicles, hang your head in shame). hide show
The weakest episode of the season, but a far cry from the kind of mediocre travesties that plague other contemporary American television serials (Sarah Connor Chronicles, hang your head in shame). No, 'Some Like It Hoth' is still the sort of well-written, engaging drama that Lost's peers have wet dreams about writing. It's taught, peppered with interesting revelations and contains a smattering of wonderfully executed scenes (Miles, Dr Chang and Hurley in the DHARMA Van/Jack confronting Roger etc.) There's also a refreshing bout of comedy to raise a few smirks: as usual, Jorge Garcia pitches the humour perfectly, particularly when he reveals he's writing The Empire Strikes Back. The main problem, however, is that after the intrigue-heavy 'Dead is Dead', Miles' back story and sojourn to The Orchid and The Swan feel rather lightweight. There's little meat to sink our teeth into, save for a very tantalising cliffhanger and, I suppose, the reveal that Miles is Chang's son which, to be fair, is done with little to nothing in the way of foreshadowing and so packs a decent punch. If only I hadn't called it several episodes ago...
