Lynda La Plante began her career as an actress and appeared in shows such as "Bergerac", "The Sweeney" and "The Professionals" under the name Lynda Marchal. She wrote the successful series "Widows"(1983), which was one of four plot outlines she sent to producers. She develped the best one, originally entitled "The Women", into the series and later wrote a sequel in 1985. Since then she has written scripts for popular series, such as "Prime Suspect"(1991) and "Trial And Retribution"(1997), and TV movies, such as "Mind Games"(2001) and "The Warden"(1999) - for both UK and US television. In 1994, she created her own film company - La Plante Productions - was set up to make her films and series for television.
