  • Airplane! is an American satirical film made in 1980 by Jim Abrahams and David and Jim Zucker for Paramount Pictures. The movie starts Robert Hays, Leslie Nielsen and Julie Hagerty and is a spoof of the genre of the "disaster" film. Ted Striker (Hays) is an ex-army pilot with a unique drinking problem and a fear of flying ever since his involvement the war. When the lost love of his life becomes a stewardess (Hagerty), he has no other option but to buy a plane ticket and try to win her back... mid air! But when a serious case of food poison ravages the passengers and pilots there isn't anyone left to fly the plane but Ted! With the help of the bumbling on-board doctor, Dr. Rumack (Nielsen) it's up to the two of them to safely land the plane with as few deaths as possible. A hilarious send up to the thrilling disaster genre, this movie was wildly successful and considered to be in the top funniest movie lists by several notable institutions and publications.moreless
