  • Angels in the Outfield is a heartwarming tale about two foster children, Roger (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and J.P. (Milton Davis, Jr.). They both live with a kind-hearted woman named Maggie (Brenda Fricker), who fosters their belief in angels. Roger's estranged father (Dermot Mulroney) comes to visit one day, and Roger asks him when they can be a family again. He responds, "I'd say when the Angels win the pennant." That night Roger prays that the hapless Angels will start winning so he and his father can be reunited. The next day Roger and J.P. sneak into the Angels game and Roger sees an angel (Christopher Lloyd) on the field. He tells Roger that angels are going to start helping the team win. As the team starts winning, Roger and J.P. develop a friendship with the manager (Danny Glover), and they tell him which players have an angel to help them in that day's game. The Angels keep winning and make it all the way to the final game, but they must win that one on their own. Angels in the Outfield gives children (and adults) a look at what it means to have faith and hope in something bigger than themselves.moreless
