- movie Description
Beautiful Losers is a 2008 documentary that features 10 artists who made a lasting impact with their work and rebellious attitude in New York arts culture. The focus of the film, which is directed by Aaron Rose, centers on individuals who were able to make a cultural impact without any input from the modern art world in the early 1990s. From this thinking came a number of people who would meet in a New York City gallery and discuss their new "versions" of art ranging from skateboarding to hip hop and graffiti. These various forms of art reflected the artists' everyday lives and each had a story to tell. In the documentary, we meet leaders of this movement such as Harmony Korine, who emerged from this non-conformist arts culture to achieve critical success in film (writer of Larry Clark's controversial movie, "Kids"). A number of other featured artists now have left a mark on culture with touring exhibits and contracts with big name companies such as Gap. In doing so, they have all managed to bring a little edge to mainstream arts culture.moreless
