  • Beyond the Gates is a 2005 film that depicts the true-life struggles of two remarkable men as they try to save over 500 Tutsi in Rwanda. The film takes place in April, 1994, just after the Hutu President of Rwanda's plane is shot down. In revenge, the Hutu people have devised a plan to systematically slaughter the Tutsi people, including over 500 students and teachers at the Ecole Technique Officielle. British teacher Joe Connor (Hugh Dancy) along with Catholic Priest Father Christopher (John Hurt) are also at the Ecole Technique Officielle and although, as foreigners they are free to leave when they want to, they decide to stay and help the people of Rwanda. Initially, they are receiving help from the Belgian UN, who have set up headquarter in the school, but after only five days the UN workers pack up and leave. Now the school has no protection and the people are left on their own to try to survive this brutal genocide. This story shows the courage of two men and their strength to fight for what they believe in.moreless
