  • Bringing Out the Dead is the highly acclaimed surrealistic drama from legendary director Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Last Temptation of Christ, Cape Fear, The Aviator, The Departed, The King of Comedy). Frank Pierce (Nicolas Cage, Leaving Las Vegas, Lord of War, Adaptation, Gone in Sixty Seconds, The Wicker Man, Con Air, Kick Ass, Bad Lieutenant, National Treasure) has been at his job of paramedic for a while. In monologues reminiscent of those uttered by De Niro in Taxi Driver, Frank tells us that his job has really gotten to him. Most of the people that he and his partner reach are already dead. He has lost hope in his job because he doesn't see himself as a saver of lives, but as a mediator between life and death. He feels that his only purpose is to be present during people's demise--a witness, so to speak. The film follows him on a nightmarish journey through New York City from victim from victim as he is tortured with hallucinations of those he has tried to save but couldn't.moreless
