  • Cimarron is a western drama based on the Oklahoma land rush of 1889 and a novel by Edna Ferber. Hot-tempered Yancey Cravat (Glenn Ford) and his immigrant wife, Sabra (Maria Schell), move from Wichita, Kansas, and claim a homestead together in Osage, Oklahoma. Yancey also starts a newspaper, but doesn't have the business sense of his wife, who ends up taking control over the company. Their paper grows into a profitable business, reaching great influence in the area, and Yancey and Sabra are reasonably comfortable, successful homesteaders. Then, Yancey is asked to run for public office, but in trying to become the governor he may have to go against his own principles. Yancey won't support legislation that would unjustly take valuable land and mineral rights from the indigenous Native Americans. Fed up with the now established town of Osage, Yancey must decide whether to leave his family behind for what is right, or give up his principles and continue life in the homestead town.moreless
