  • Coal Miner's Daughter is the autobiographical story of famous country legend, Loretta Lynn. The 1976 film follows the story of Lynn (Sissy Spacek) as one of eight children born to father Ted Webb (Levon Helm). Growing up in the poverty stricken household she was married to an Oliver Lynn (Tommy Lee Jones) at the tender age of 13. By the time she turned nineteen she had already mothered four children and started singing occasionally at local bars and honky-tonks. At 25 years old she is asked to fly out to LA to record one of her local hits, "Honky Tonk Girl" and to take the song on the road. She does just that and with kids and husband in tow. Performance after performance she trudges on doing what she loves to do best, sing. This film chronicles the rough ride of a performer never blessed with the easy road. The film earned 13 academy nominations and a win for Sissy Spacek for best actress. The film won 7 of its 13 nominations.moreless
